MY and L's at least - the bonnet stay

Post by steptoe » Wed Jun 27, 2007 1:46 pm

the bonnet stay has two uses. one to hold up bonnet for most cases, but the sneaky one i did not know about was that if you remove stay from body at front and stick that end in a hole on a bracket on suspension tower of same side you then use the hole and bump next to the normal hole in bonnet. This holds bonnet back far enough to get engine out. I always used a bit of rope. !

SWK showed me that trick a couple of weeks ago when he loaned me a motor, before that i used to tie the bonnet back to the roof racks.

yes , but sometimes you do wonder if the engineers go to the factory holiday camps with the assembly workers (EA82T outer turbo heat shield lower inner bolt- not an easy task from above)

I like how L series wagons have the little hidden thread in the floor of the boot which means you can propperly secure a second spare wheel there.

The L series radio bit is more sign of the times as when they where released a CD player wasnt even around and hi end tape players where only about the same size as what come out of the L anyway.

As with anything made on a production line seldom do the component assembly groups ever seem to show that they where both on the same page on the same day.
