"Permits to Traverse" no longer required?

Post by Fang » Mon Jun 25, 2007 5:52 pm

I went about my annual duty of applying for a Permit to Traverse recently so I can go 4WDing at Mt Mee / Beerburrum etc. The lady at QPWS told me they are not needed anymore. If there is a sign saying "Permit to Traverse" required - anyone can go in.

You still have to follow other forestry signs (ie "Logging: Keep Out"). Unusual for the government to make less red tape like that.

I was thinking that too, Leon - just takes some snotty ranger (and there are some in SE QLD) to be a smart ass and you'd be walking off with a fine.

There have been a heap of changes to the areas in Qld we all go for a drive in since National Parks have taken over from the local concerns. Some of these have been good and some not so good, and some of the proposals down right rude. If you are a Bribie user about the biggest thing that changed was the speed limit on Bribie is now 50kms except where the camp area is which is 30kms this replaces the old 25km speed limit.

mm like closing camping grounds and making them day-picnic only because NP doesn't have the money to run them whereas State Forest did. Chatted to a State Forest ranger about it a while back, he was pretty dirty about the proposed reductions in access and management.
