EJ+AWD into MY. ratios and sway bar questions

Post by steptoe » Sun Jun 17, 2007 10:04 pm

should be in conversion section I know.

Question #384 on EJ's and MY

I've been researching old posts re MYEJAWD conversions

find front sway bar off normal Brumby/wagon cannot stay if not raised
TRUE/FALSE

alternatve mentioned was auto 4wd bar (was that L or MY)

EJ's didn't come out in 3.7 ratio
TRUE/FALSE

BVC tells me his single ratio AWD lib box is 3.7 , i think.

The MY swaybar won't fit as it fouls on the EJ Gearbox crossmember, I am not sure about an auto 4wd one. L series can be adapted particularly if you convert to L arms at the same time. Early Lib dual range were 3.9 went to 3.7 with Gen 2 so 1994 on. Most Impreza were 3.9.

I was under the impression that in the Gen2 cars, single range AWD was 3.7 and dual range AWD was 3.9

I am lifting a gen2 soon... will find out i guess

I run no anti sway bar in my Brumby with rear L series springs in the front.. Didn't notice much difference over having the bar in handling wise.

Gen 2 Liberty are 3.7 dual range boxes (and same goes for single range)
1st Gen Liberty were 3.9 both single & dual range.

aha, so what I got told in here by others some long time ago may not have been entirely correct. Lookin' at Jordans collection today it LOOKS like he has an auto 4WD sway bar from an MY ready for conversion (i might have missed this item in his list)

You didn't miss it, I never thought to list it. I intentionally bought an automatic car for the conversion because I did not intend to lift it, and the auto has a bigger transmission tunnel and sway bar to accomodate the EJ gear.

If someone wants it make me an offer.
