DL and GL differences
DL and GL differences
can anybody tell me some of the differences between DL and GL Subies
ive heard that the DL was a base model with basic dash and only single range..which would make mine a GL then coz its got digital dash and its a d/range 4wd
that is to say that mine is actually classified as either a GL or DL

DL's and GL's came in dual range 4wd. I think the single range may have been an option (and it may have had the 3.9 diff), but i'm not sure on this. They also come as front wheel drive only too (my sister has an '84 L front wheel drive GL)
DL's for the L series has base everything - 3 guage dash display, vinyl floors, vinyl roof lining, basic cloth seats, no electric windows or mirrors.
GL's came with 4 gauge dash. As to vinyl floors etc i think it depened on what you asked for (i prefer these, easy to clean, hold water etc).
The touring wagon had it all - 4 guage dash, electric mirrors and windows, cloth floor/ceiling, a better cloth covered set of seats, tilt adjust steering, an option for dual battery setup + second cigarette lighter in the cargo area for running of a fridge or the like.
That said i'm sure you'll find something different to what i've said - But that's the best part about owning a subi, i reckon there isn't one out there that's the same as another...
Cheers

I have a different theory. They are always going to be different because of genetics. I reckon L series cars are breeding, most of the progeny being white wagons. All subtely different in their genetic makeup; tourers, lifted, steel-stockies, speedies, turbo etcetc. Even twins that appear identical have subtle differences in character. One may be the homely type that prefers to stay on the bitumen, the other like to get a bit down and dirty and have some offroad adventure.El_Freddo wrote:But that's the best part about owning a subi, i reckon there isn't one out there that's the same as another...

One of the best features of the pre L series Touring wagon, in my opinion, was the double headlights, same as the GLF coupe.El_Freddo wrote:DL's and GL's came in dual range 4wd.
