Spider Manifold Looms and Computer info needed .

Spider Manifold Looms and Computer info needed .
Hi all , I may have tracked down another manifold complete with all the pipework and sub loom ie from a Vortex EA82 Spider turbo engine (ex import parts) .
What do I now need to make it run on an 86 mod RX turbo sedan . I have an Aust spec 88 optical dizzy/cas but I'm not sure what I need in the way of the MAF, main loom and ECU . I missed getting the 88 wagon MAF metre but the loom from the two large round plugs is still there and no doubt the computer as well . A couple of people here have on hand the car side loom and the late MAF RX computer but will they run everything inc ie the Spiders unique (opens opposite direction) throttlebody or do I need a Vortex computer ?

First question, is the spider intake from a 3 plug or4 plug car? if you can purchase a efi car and add the turbo motor to it, thats gonna be the easiest way. But even better if you find a rx

Now if i remember correctly, 85/86 3plug/vane AFM vortex's had the same manifold as normal l series, it was the 87+ 4plug/hotwire MAF that had the spyder manifold.... so if that is what you have, you are gonna need to modify the throttle switch to work with the 3 plug ecu. Have you got a 3plug normal manifold?

Search the USMB, a guy there did it, i think calebs had something to do with it

Could the TPS be mounted on the other side of the Throttle Body? This would make it work the way it used to - ie it will be turning the way it should be.
Or could you mount your TB (from the RX) with the TPS on the spider manifold backwards so the butterfly opens the same as the TB on the spider (in suggesting this i've never seen one and hope that the TB isn't one piece with the manifold).
Got any pics of what you have? Think it could be interesting to see the changes and how you got around some problems.

Use the TPS off your orginal manifold you will have to make a small recess in one side to enable movement and drill and tap new holes for the lock screws. Then you will have to lengthen the TPS wires about 150mm. All of the orginal harness should fit to most every thing else. Cept the Bypass Air control its under the spidey so you have to lengthen or pick out the wires in your orginal engine harness to fit. You will also need either an Intercooler or the spidey plastic turbo to manifold plenum.
If you have AC you will also need the spidey top bracket for the AC or you will have to fabricate your own. On the same subject if you have the AC hoses from the compressor exiting the rear of the AC compressor you will need to remove it and get another or stick with the original.
Rumour has it the Spideys where good for another 8kw.
PS white injector leads to the front incase you forget or dont think of it till you are plugging them back in.

Hi SWK , Arachnid manifold has actualy a damaged loom but I think its sensors are all there , the TPS and TB assembly with its cage of cable mount gagetry are all there . A big bonus is that the turbo to TB and MAF to turbo inlet pipes are coming with it . Fingers crossed also the spider engines unique steel water tube that runs from the top of the WPump back and becomes I think a heater hose . This pipe has a slightly different T off for spidos TB . An alternator ribbed pulley as well .
I'm now considering using the 4 plug system because I don't want to disect 3 plug bits I may not easily be able to replace .
My engine I hope is going to be replaced soon with a non spider Vortex Turbo 4 plug type as it would be fresher than my 252K old one . I did hear once that the import EA82T std manifold type was a bit better than ours possibly slightly higher compression ratio ?
Anyhow initially my 3 plug bits and manifold just to get it running .
The engine is being sold to me with a computer and some wiring but don't know how much .
