someone hit my subaru!

Post by Cynical » Thu May 03, 2007 12:43 pm

i've got a 1982 wagon. all stock except stereo and 14" wheels.
somone recently rear-ended me. damage appears to be tail light, bumber and slight dent in rear quarter..

insurance is paying (theirs not mine)

first quote came in at $1228!!!

any opinions?

i'm currently thinkin if insurance calls it an economical write-off i'll get $1000 odd dollars and keep the car!

anybody had a case like this? did insurance co. write it off?

Cheers

Cynical

sorry to hear about that. Its pretty gut wrenching when you find your baby missing or damaged.

Hope you sort something out, i havn't had this problem with a "cosmetic" writeoff, so i'm no help here.

Good luck

If you dont mind not driving the car any more, I would go for the write off.

insurance will go for 70 or 75% of market value of the car, if its more than 70 or 75% its write off.
Like for example, I wrote off Holden JE Camira after T-Boned someone but to repair it was un-economical to repair, so wrote it off, got 2 grand for it from other driver's insurance, and I bought the car from Insurance and kept the rego on it, bought it off for $250 - they were happy with it, so had $2000, sold the Camira for $1500 after repair - only costed me $140 for same colour parts. (bonnet, painted bumper etc - all white)... So you (be aware) could try buy the car back from insurance, but it'll be 50/50 as they will accept as write off and the car is in their hands and you say I want to buy back the car - you might be lucky if they say yes.

goin 4 the write off means re-registering (another cost) and paper work that can be avoided.
gettin insurance to pay may save u money- however it may take a while to get the car fixed- i heard insurance can take a while

depends where you are, but in victoria you won't require re-registering if write off because its not on insurance hands...

so far insurance is just a pain in the a**, second quote was $980.. but its been well over a week since AAMI sent the bloke out to look at it..

At this point i'd be happy just to have a result either way.
