Availability of Late Vortex EA82T engines etc ?
Hi all , can anyone tell me if the late Vortex style EA82T engines can be found around importers ? The one I mean uses the "Spider" inlet manifold and the Mass Airflow Sensor so it sounds like the four plug computer ?
Is there any hope of finding one of these with enough electrics to make it run or too old too hard nowdays ?
If not I need to talk to whomever is doing the striped tagged EJ looms to suit an L series RX-T .
Cheers Adrian .

If your lucky you can find them in the wreckers (not with spider manifold though), but you may be looking at a rebuild to get the best of the engine...
When you say "Mass Airflow Sensor" i'm guessing thats the next airflow metre from the old "flapper" style. I think its known as a Hot Wire Airflow Metre, at least that's what i've heard it called...
I think Kaz in WA is selling a turbo from a vortex but no spider manifold, just the standard.
Good luck hunting.
Cheers

the good thing about the 4 plug ecu turbos, you can run it off the 4 plug mpfi system found in touring wagons. Just add 2 wires for knock sensor and wgds

What is WGDS ?
ATM I have a Spider manifold pegged and a choise of a good runner EA82T or one to rebuild . Actually my favourite you pull it wrecker had an 89 MAF EA82 wagon and silly me should have pinched the loom and sea of tubing on the inlet manifold . I bagged the EFI pump/bracket for a spare ($30) and should have ransacked more off it . At the time I was ratting Liberty's for the bits needed in the 5 stud hub conversion and was running out of time/light/wheelbarrow ! Its a wonder the poor Charade wheezed myself and all the ironmongery home ...
Anyhow I think it shouldn't be too hard to get the Spider manifold on and plumbed to work with the early vane type AFM or 3 plug system . The 4 plug setup is probably nice but again that would depend on how "flexible" the engine management systems are . I really prefer not to go dowm the road of MAP based systems and will have to look at the 3 and 4 plug ECU's to see if they can be chipped or have their load sensing signals "bent" with an interceptor of some kind . The fact that the ignition system is separate may mean that it won't do the rich/retard if fiddled with .
Meanwhile if anyone knows where there is a complete available spider or its steel tube rats nest I'm all ears .
Cheers Adrian .

I dunno how you will go using the spider manifold with a 3 plug system, im not saying its impossiable, but the throttle switch is different. You will prolly have to modify the TPS and Throttle SW
WGDS is the wastegate duty solenoid, it adjusts boost pressure to compensate for altitude and relitive atmospheric pressure.
