Not to worry , I think it would be possible to cut the ends off an EA82 MPFI manifold and fabricate something better than the L series one . I'd like to look into EJ manifolds and see what the plenum section is like volume wise . There may be a way to have the throttlebody mounted so that plumbing for a front mounted intercooler is easier .
That pic of the engine with the red manifold , I noticed that the AC compressor and alternator are opposite way around to my 86 RX . Vortex ?

Cheers A .

550 kg sounds like a VW beetle. I have spoken to a guy years ago that had a beetle with EA81 in it - with two tiny turbos and twin carbs, said to keep up with WRX's except for corners !!

90Brumby... those heads can be found on SUB4 website in NZ. it is their casting and they are not cheap talking car prices, but cheap aeroplane part prices. they have run their motor in their own blue brumby !! from memory they also make roler rockers for their heads and cast alloy covers to go with it !!!!

To use these spider manifold don't you need a different head that has separated ports similar to the EJ head design?

Just out of curiosity: would one of these increase performance on a NA EA82?

Cheers

I wondered this too. You can get NA Spider Manifolds for EA82 - at least the States - but I think they are MPFI. Weld up the injector holes and adapt the throttle body inlet for a Weber

I've already got the MPFI, but a if the spider manifold made things flow better it would probabily be worth the look as i've just re-built the engine cancelling out an EJ conversion anytime soon...

The thing to look at if you were going to bolt a weber is how the fuel:air mixture flows through the manifold, you don't want saturation on the walls slowing fuel into the engine. It would be interesting to bolt one on and see what happens though.

Exactly - its not designed for that. I think the NA Spider manifolds came out in some XT's (Vortex). I nearly bought one to have a look.

EA82 turbo heads are same casting as EA82 MPFI and have two inlet ports. The turbo head has more holes made in it.

Cool little buggy. Knew a guy that put his smowmobile Porsche motor in one of these, alittle backfire turned it into a flame thrower !!

I was reading elsewhere that there is some slight difference with turbo and NA spider EA82 manifolds , possibly to do with water plumbing for the turbo . Thanks to Gee I now have such a manifold but not yet sure if its turbo or NA . He did not have the steel fuel and vacum pipes or throttle body so if anyone has them for sale please let me know . Its not the end of the world to make stuff up but the factory gear is usually easier and neater .

Cheers A .

You can tell if it is turbo by a 12mm steel pipe that comes from the tubro water outlet to the thermostat on the intake.

If you are lucky, the throttle body off the normal intake might fit

will post a picture of mine insitu...a most worthy mod indeed, but mine took much stuffing about getting the fuel and cold running right.

...and then only had 2 weeks before someone else enjoyed a little too much
