WRX JDM ECU Reprogramming

Post by maddog » Tue Apr 10, 2007 9:51 pm

Hi All - A friend of mine bought a Jap import WRX MY04. He says it's a JDM? Anyway, turns out he can't register it for road use (No ADR compliance) and he's pissed about it. So he's gonna buy (or has maybe already bought) another Aussie Impreza and swap all the good bits into it - including interior! Sounds reasonable to me...
He wants to tune the car for heaps more bhp - apparently the engine has scroll turbos and runs at very low boost and is capable of much more... Is there anyone out there who can tell me the actual truth about this and if it is possible then what do we need to do this? I already have a laptop...
Any help will be much appreciated, thanks.

Ecutek, Verso, Cob flash tuner.... All proprietory stuff with big dollar price tag to use/un-lock. Exclusive to registered tuners who have payed ! They un-lock and re-tune the fatory ecu.

...although if you were a good enough programmer and had access to enough info(i.e buy a Cobb access port and reverse engineer it...and for the dongle/interface) you could possibly do what you need, you`d have to be farken good but, and willing to invest much more time and effort than paying someone for a single tune to get what you want(tuning a singlr car) would cost!

Easier most likely to buy a aftermarket ecu pnp or wire in just tune that yourself(if you can) !

PS: If you don`t know enough already before you were to begin on such a project, and have to ask this sort of question just buy a aftermarket ECU and tune it..or have it tuned ! Many options available from ~$2000-$6000(tuned) avaliable...

Thanks OS - I thought it sounded like bullsh*t - also, I would imagine that if you got it wrong you could toast the motor? I shall advise my mis-informed mate! Can you recommend a good tuner?
Thanks again,
Justin.

In your neck of the woods I`m not really sure, get a rexnet and ask ;) I think there is a guy called "hitman" who`s pretty good over that way. Depends if you want to re-flash the std ecu or go aftermarket. Find a tuner talk to them about options.
