Q: What to offer for an L series wagon

Post by dfoyl » Wed Apr 04, 2007 8:25 am

I've been offered an L-series wagon by a co-worker. 1990 model, CV's are both gone (he's taking it off the road for this reason), registered until July, heater doesn't work but everything else is fine. 4wd box is good, has A/C, front bullbar, fairly recently replaced clutch, towbar, body is straight.

I don't really have any need for an L-series (I could use a few bits like the box for my Brumby but I already have a 5-speed box waiting in the shed!), and don't have much love for the EA82, but he just wants it gone ASAP.

What's it worth ? I know the box is a good $200, and scrap metal alone will be a few hundred. I'd assume it'll have stock steel wheels with decent tyres.

It's in Doncaster, Vic. I'm heading o/s on holidays mid next week so I need to make a decision pretty quickly so I have time to pick it up (or if anybody here can use it then contact me via PM).

Thanks.

Dean.

According to eBay, one in good condition is worth $12,000 :)

But the one on offer has 2 blown CV's, must bring it down to about $10,000

Seriously though, depending on how much you like the guy I'd offer between $200-500, if he says he just wants it out of the way start with $200 and work from there.

The main point to remember as you said , you don't really have any need for it .
Bit hard to really say a price without actually seeing the Vehical.

The bull bar is also worth soemthing... it will also depends on if there are people near you looking for L parts. At 1 point i know thet some of the L owners would have payed that as we were all needed spares, but now we have heaps of then so moving it would be more difficult.
Toyota 105 Series LandCruiser (that nobody on here wants to really hear about).
RX Touring Wagon - fitted out for 4WDing (currently collecting dust).
RX Project - will be road only at this stage (and currently taking way to long to finish).

I bought it for $400 in the end, it's got rego to end of July but ATM it's just sitting in the shed as a back-up 5 speed in case the other 5 speed going into the Brumby turns out to be no good (getting the 5 speed fitted next week, actually). I was thinking of putting it on eBay complete if the 5 speed I have is ok, but if somebody here wants it for $400 (or thereabouts) they're welcome to it (I have all the transfer doc's filled out from the seller, just haven't taken them to VicRoads as I didn't want to pay the $50-odd charge). It'll need a new battery, my partners Corolla's battery died last week and the L-series wagon had the exact same type so I pulled it.

I checked the wagon over, and the CV's are fine but one boot is cracked. There is a bad driveline noise which I am inclined to think is actually brakes (it shudders a bit when braking, and scrapes at speeds above 20km/h in a straight line, but the noise stops while cornering). Body is nice & straight (has some white touch-ups mostly on the bonnet), interior is clean but a bit worn, heater as I think I wrote earlier doesn't work but I haven't played with it. Clock doesn't work of course, I re-soldered the resistor joints but it didn't fix it. Has an after-market CD player fitted, not a very clean install but ok. Has basically all the options, roof racks (OEM Subaru), towbar, etc - not the high-roofline model though. It's got the 13" "wagon wheels" steel rims, white, good tread. I cleaned up the front ones and they look a lot better, need the plastic clips to hold the hubcaps on though.

Come have a look if you're interested, I'm only 5 minutes away from Boronia :)

If I do need the gearbox which parts do you want otherwise ?

Dean.
