EA82T convert to rib drive belts from V belt?
has anyone dealt with my current thought problem ?
GLTA has originally the V belts for air , steer etc and the motor to go in has the flat multi rib belt pulleys. dunno if the gas is any good in the cars air con but thinking if it is I should keep using v belt stuff
but have a funny feeling water pump pulley flange is different position between V belt and flat belt - any one encountered this ?
gonna do a run assembly run of timong belts , covers water pump etc just to be sure, but ya tips 'd be welcome.
thanks, Jono

Yeah the ribbed or serpantine belt usually came on XT vortex motors and the overseas GL10
The waterpump pulley sits in a different postion to that of a v belt, but i have heard that you can use a press to push the mounting flange further down the shaft if needed.
I have a serpantine belt main pulley and water pump and water pump pulley that im not using, i believe that the air con is different also

If it counts for anything, there's a reason most manufacturers changed to ribbed belts from V belts. They can transmit more power before slipping, can drive on both sides of the belt to a degree and run cooler than V belts.
I'd try stick with the ribbed belts if possible.

Pfft... i think i just heard the gas escape from the v belt driven air compressor
yup, get the feeling waterpumps are different only in the position of the pulley flange. press and puller will be at hand
at least i a m getting there, coming up to a year since i bought the beast and all i wanna do is drive it..whoooosh !!

I had to put a spacer (about 3-4mm) under a rib belt water pump to convert it to a V-belt. So it's a fair bet you will need to move the flange about 3-4 mm closer to the pump body.

ta, might make sense as there is a height of 5mm difference between some EA82 pumps, whether it is the T or Vortex that makes the diff, dunno, yet !
deck height is the term used
so, next question . has anyone done a swap with air con drive pulley v belt to ribbed. yet to lok at this so is a rather lazy qwestion on my part.

ive heard that its a different compressor alltogether.
I have the vortex waterpump and pulley and had the intention of changine to ribbed belt, but figured id need to change the air con compressor, so i never bothered

I like the idea of a spacer for going between turbo, n/a and vortexx , shame the parts makers never thought of it - they just charge more for shifting the pulley flange. I am just expecting it to be wrong when i get there.
V belt EJ ?? must be do able - give or take a packet of Panadols
Huh, funny, noticed in another post a reference to electronics supermarket needs to be Richard Smith Electronics or Penis Smith Electronics, those asterisks are still making life interesting

I never thought of ej pulleys, but that still means changing the air con compressor, which i did not want to do.
If you want the Vortex waterpump, i have one along with the ribbed pulley that came with it
