gudgeon pin access plugs. sealant used??

Post by steptoe » Tue Mar 20, 2007 11:20 pm

what do others seal the gudgeon pin access plugs with. got water on one side and oil on the other.

In the past I have used stag and may do this time around too.
replacing a really rusted out plug behind the water pump on the EA82T

finally bought a 14mm hex in a 1/2" drive socket for this job Kinchrome $20 from autopro

in case you need to remove someday - i used a small $20 blow torch to heat up the block surrounding the plug, used the new 14mm key on a 600mm breaker bar and hey presto. note. would not budge prior to the heat.

I use Permatex 3 to seal the plugs and use new alloy washers everytime i pull them out. If you use engine coolant the plug behind the water pump dont rust away on you

I've just used some old GMH sealant dad had in the shed... And the washers have also been replaced ;)

washer ? yeah, found one on my spare.may need closer inspection to find its washer still stuck there??. thinking the grey maxx silicone will do the job as it is good for oil and water and used it to join blocks before. after 20 years of use, & some neglect these bits will rust.

s'pose the washers are a standard subaru part ??
