EJ conversion wiring swap price?

Post by SuBaRiNo » Tue Mar 13, 2007 7:21 pm

Im sure this post is going to be taken the wrong way but....

What is the going rate to pay someone to do the wiring swap (engine and ECU harness) from an EJ into an L... including cutting down the harness??

Anyone had to pay an auto electrician or anything like that??

I`ll strip and label the harness for $300....garentee`d to work as per labeled. Harness must be complete, undamaged, unmodified and in good working order, removed from std liberty.....

As for fitting to the car....previous stezza installes, ****ty alarm installs and **** box cars would not let me give fixed price ! $50 an hour + parts if required(extra relays, wiring, fusable links, gromets, broken bolts, brokens clips, captive nuts, rusted/broken parts etc etc owner to source and supply..... or sourcing time included in chargeable hours + parts cost, timing will be reasonable, done it before)

sunspares in QLD want $350 (price is from last year it might have gone up) that includes the loom cut down etc....but that would only be good if ya didnt have a loom.....i think they might do an exchange type thing to... also steve from the rising sun does em to i think... im not sure how much......
Dave it can be hard to set a price cause for some people you might do a job cheaper (ie friends etc) the best way is to work out a hourly rate (say half of what a sparky would charge) and go from there...like oversteer said so it must take him 6hrs to do the loom......

....yeah that sounds plausable !

...maybe theres a little more to it than making a EJ engine run in an L ! ...just like fitting a EJ rack and collum into a Brumby.

Great idear but, would be a sweet set-up if you have the time....and could, for those concerned, make it legal/registerable.

My thoughts on this adapter is you use the full lib front harness which will plug into most l accessories, light etc then you plug in the back half of the loom via adapter.r u:confused:

I can't see how it can effectively happen with an adaptor... I won't say its not possible but I will definitely say it won't be as neat and tidy as a proper job.

The adaptor isn't there to run a Wolf or Microtech EJ is it? How does this adaptor go with the different models too, MY, L carb and L MPFI/Turbo all have fairly different wiring hey...

Local price for me to strip and tag a harness is $130. EJ harness that is.

The Adapter that Dave is building came about after I fitted the complete loom to the front of my ute. The adapter plugs in to the SMJ of the EJ harness and directly in to the standard rear loom.

All it does is allow you to simply wire the rear end of you car after fitting the complete ej front loom. It saves people about 4 hours of wiring.

Fitting an EJ loom to an earlier Sube is not plug and play in behind the dash as some people may have you think. There is hours of work to be done to have every thing connected and working properly.

Best way for the average person to go is a stripped down loom layed over the original. Fitting a stripped and tagged loom can be done by just about any one. There is not a lot of wiring to be done. Most of the time is spent in laying the new harness in position.

The adapters he is making are made to suit what ever the loom is you are fitting to what ever model you are putting it in. There is multiple different adapters that are needed. Put simply it is very much like a 7 pin round trailer plug to a 7 pin flat. All the wires are there, you just need the adapter that goes in between. No cutting, soldering or taping invlolved. Plug and ply. Exactly the same as the one I built for Brumbyrunners new ute you have all been looking at lately. WRX -> MY adapter.
