Scorpion Low Range Conversion

Post by L-Raiser » Sun Mar 11, 2007 2:11 pm

Ive since discovered that the Scorpion Low Range conversion gearset is only designed to fit 'SERIES THREE' Outback/Forester gearboxes.....

So their kit is useless to anyone with a Series 1 or 2 G/box...

The later model boxes fit the earlier model engines.
I've got an 00 WRX box fitted to the back of my 93 WRX motor.
Current rides:
JDM GTII Touring wagon
88 RX Turbo Full-time 4wd touring wagon project - 97 Toyota Caldina GTT (turbo 4wd WRX eater:twisted:) - Hyundai Excel Rally Car:confused::???:
Previous rides:
93 Legacy GT wagon - 85 RX Turbo Full time 4wd Touring Wagon - 85 GL AWD sedan
96 Toyota Caldina wagon

External casing most likely similar internals obviously too different.

No, the casings aren't that similar.
The later models have 8 bolts securing to the engine, instead of the earlier models 4 (but these 4 still line up) & for the EJ20T, you've actaully got to cut away part of the bellhousing.

But you missed the point. If you want to use the Scorpion kit, you need the S3 or newer box, so therefore, you get a S3 box & bolt it onto whatever EJ motor you have.

I have this gearbox...

5spd AWD
Dual Range
Hydraulic Push clutch setup
4.111 final drive
8 bolt housing
From a 1999 Outback
Currently bolted to my RS EJ20G (using 4 bolts)

I can probably find the ident numbers if I look hard enough....but from that description can anybody tell me if its a "S3" gearbox and will work with this Scorpion LOW low range kit?

Andrew I would say thats an S3 box.

I would say the reason scorpion have designed the gearset for S3 boxes only is because you can use the L series gearset in pre-S3 boxes.
