Good cheap replacement shockers for an L?

Post by Phizinza » Wed Jan 17, 2007 10:33 am

My parents wagon needs new shocks all round. It sits high and all so the springs are fine. But it's like riding on a bouncy ball... So I need four new shocks that will last long and are cheap-ish. Whats the good brand names I should be looking for? Any particular ones stand out?

Thanks for any help.

Alot of people use KYB's as a good mix of value and quality.
Munroes are also pretty good, less suited to offroading though.

I beleive Gabriels are a fair bit cheaper. The suspension shop I usually deal with rekons they are crap but I guess that may also be something to do with them being the WA distros for KYB!
Subi from these forums has Gabriels all round on his lifted offroading L series and I beleive they are performing excellently dispite the punishment they've gotten so far!

Gabriels are about 1/2 the cost of kyb. If you were closer i'd give you the front set i pulled out recently, they are still ok - push the piston rod down and it comes back up.
The ride has always been a bit soft with them, ie bit too bouncy for off-road, but i used them for about 2years.

I'd also consider ACDelco's off ebay.

I think $500 is about the tops. And I'm pretty sure the springs on there will do fine, just need new shocks. It's not going to be a race car or a lifted offroader, just a daily driver.
Any ideas on where to buy Gabriel shocks in Adelaide that has good service, or KYB's?
