Any one know where i can get my hands on one of these suckers ? I gota get a super thin one as i have no room whatsoever to fit the second thermo fan ..

Davies Craig.
Your running EJ20G in your L series?

I've got a custom dual core radiator with two 12" davies craig thermo fans on the engine side - pretty tight fit but nothing touches (even offroading and with no engine stay rod).
They blow an absolute hurricane.

I got one from a BMW M3, its about an inch wide.
Blows like Katrina.

EJ22 Dual range AWD lifted, widened and much happier now thanks very much.

1991 L Series wagon, white and perfectly normal apart from the ticking, no I think that is normal.

Jet boat..webbered EA81 with a hybrid tin dish welded and glued to it.

I can't even fit a 10" into mine with an EJ20T
& some detials about the rad.

The trick is to get the radiator to mount flush with the top of the metal that crosses left to right over the engine bay (where the top of the radiator bolts in with two bolts). Basically get it to mount as far forward in the car as possible to create the maximum room you can between the radiator and the motor pulleys.
The nut on the power steering pump comes fairly close to the drivers side fan (about 5 or 6mm) but has never touched. (I know its shiny, it did touch a little when I was messing around fitting it :) This is why this fan is mounted further down than the other fan. NOTE - I have not even got round to putting an engine stay rod in, and this is with a 3" lift kit. The smaller the lift, the more clearance you will have there because the motor will sit further up in relation to the radiator.

The radiator was custom built by a local radiator place here.
It's a Twin core Liberty core combined with Brass end tanks from some model of Holden Gemini. I've heard you can also use Toyota Tarago tanks but the guy rekoned the Gemini ones fitted better.
The inlet and outlet pipe are obviously modified to match the size and angle of a standard Liberty RS radiator.

These fans are great. I ran the car for the first couple of months with only the passenger side fan in. I did have to stop to let her cool off periodically when offroading in boggy sand etc but otherwise it was fine. Now with the second fan its unstoppable. (Although I have not reinstalled my air con yet. I'm guessing I may actually need a third thermo fan mounted on the front side of the car to deal with the extra heat here, I've looked and a 10" fan should fit in there with some clever brackets).

Note - please ignore my temporary wiring in the background! :)

I couldn't fit two 12" in mine because the pulley for the power steering is in the way so I have a 10" and a 12". This is with a 2" lift kit.

Should fit, that should actually be easier than it was in mine too cause of smaller lift kit. Mabey your radiator is mounted closer to the engine. Those pics speak for themselves anyway I guess :P That is two 12"'s mounted with a dual core radiator and an EJ20G.

AndrewT, that looks really neat. And if you take the bolt off the end of the power steer & knock the rounded bit off, you'll gain anothe couple of mm.

How much did the rad cost you to get built & where abouts are you?
My twin L series cored one sits well back from the rad support so that's what's causing my issues.
Had any dramas with cooling? & how do you use the car (ie daily runner, 4wding, etc)?

Nah no dramas with cooling anymore with this setup.
Car is used as a daily driver, a work car and a weekend offroader. Use it for everything really.

The radiator was a tad over $400 from memory. Cost me about another $50 or so later on to get the inlet and outlet pipes modified for the EJ motor.
Yeah I think the main trick is to get it to sit as far forward as possible. I "reshaped" some of the metal around the headlights and also cut some small sections out to achieve this - really very minor mods though, nothing major.
(I've seen people cut huge sections of metal away in order to fit an actual Liberty radiator in).

That big nut on the power steering pump could be shaved down I guess, or even replaced with a normal nut.
You could also cut a few sections of the black plastic frame out of the fan too - 3 or 4 of these missing is not going to cause it to fall apart.

AndrewT, Can you let us know where you had the radiator done?

Spoke to a shop about somthing like that and they just looked at me funny and said it couldn't be done (more like couldn't be bothered!)

currently running the original L radiator with an EJ22 and installed an adaptor in the radiator hose to accommodate different sizes. She gets warm crawling up the freeway some afternoons and with no AC running yet!

My radiator is a tiny bit more fowards, but the problem is the nut on the power steering pump is exactly in the middle of the fan motor.

Now you know why I want a proper setup. Stock rad has troubles with EA82T, let alone an EJ20T
