EJ22 ECU's

Post by Tim82 » Wed Nov 16, 2005 10:00 am

just wondering if there is any difference in the auto and manual ECU's from EJ22s. and also the wiring loom.

is one better than the other? is it easier to strip one or the other harnesses?

Cheers Tim

There is no real difference in the ecu between auto and manual(nothing that you would notice) with the exception of 96 onwards autos which use a PCM(engine and trans control in one unit).

The Series One loom is the hardest to strip especially if it is auto, they also have the worst ecu so steer clear if you can.

Series 2 are easier to strip because they tidied up the method of wiring and simplified it in the process. The ECU is now a 16 bit and is a big improvement. A good choice and the price is usually right.

Series 3 is the best(up to 8/96) because the loom is simplified again and only has one engine connection point so is neater in a non std engine bay. It also has a 32 bit ecu and delivers better economy, smoother running and is more reliable overall. The best choice if available.

You can use an auto loom in any of these three with a manual trans but not in 8/96 on(if you are running an auto this model is the best choice).
