Engine Running Cooler.

Post by BlackMale » Thu Nov 30, 2006 3:53 pm

Its not really a trouble shoot, so a long storey short I was driving last weekend in the heat we had over here (remember Sunday with its like 30+ degrees). Well 1 of the banjo clips failed on the plenum and this resulted in the plenum hose on the RHS hose or the side directly above the turbo blowing off (EA82T – as if you need to be told).

Now other then it sounding like the BOV had remained open and driving like the clutch had failed (full engine rev with no actual power) the temp gauge dropped significantly. Can someone attempt to explain this?

I felt that the engine would be working harder (I continued to limp it, which was not an easy task in itself) with the turbo blowing its continence into the engine bay. The ONLY reason I can think it would have dropped in temp was the fact that there would be less ‘pressure’ in the system.

Oh and the coolant/oil levels etc is all good/where they should have been and are all still good, and I have replace the banjo clip and I have not had any issues since oh and the temp gauge is back up where it should be as well.

Hope this make sense and who want to have a shot at this 1?

so you had no positive pressure after that? In other words you lost boost?

if so i could see that making your car run much cooler :P

Yes lost boost however the turbo was now spooling up easy as, blowing wide open thus turbo was doing more work/rotations for less power output.
