Lift or lower?
Lift or lower?
hey all.
I been thinkin alot lately. Mostly about trees and diamond-studded bicycles, but somewhat about what I'm going to do to my car.
Firstly, I wanted to do an EJ20G conversion into my MY, and completely street it out. Now, I'm not so sure. I could get EJ22 and Lift it, or EJ22 and lower it, or I could (dare I say it) sell it when I can afford another car (Sierra with GTi engine/Laurel/V35 GT etc.). That's getting ahead of myself here, but alas i must turn to you for advice:
Lower it - Liberty front struts and hubs, dunno bout the rear, rims, and lowered 1.5" with hard springs from aurora ($350 a pair delivered I think)
Lift it - Whatever you guys do. Probably lift maybe 3" all round. stick some good-ass big tyres on.
decisions decisions. what do you think?

Have you got any good offroad spots closeish to you? It can be a pain driving a car that is built for offroad on road. I wouldn't recommend the turbo EJ for offroading. From my experience they have shit low end torque, so you really need it to spool the turbo to get it going, which is like 2500RPM. I guess thats ok for climbing sand dunes and rallying, but is that all you want to be able to do offroad?
But I haven't built a turbo EJ offroader, only been in one and watched it go around. So maybe the fun of driving it is worth the sacrifice of the torque.
If you got anywhere that may be good for offroad, go with the lift. If not, I'd street it.

Well from my experience EJ20G (turbo)s have excellent low end torque.
My experience comes from driving one basically exclusively offroad for the last 4 months solid. Sand, gravel, rocks - we've tried all terrains.
This is without using Low-range at all by the way.
I can tell you there is absolutely no problem with torque when not on boost. Granted it is a turbo motor and has less compression than a non turbo EJ .. this is beside the point. It is still an EJ and has HEAPS more torque than any EA. ie - Way more torque than an L series or MY was ever designed for.
I'm sure someone else from the WA crew will back me up on this...have I ever got stuck from the engine bogging down due to lack of torque?

hehe yeah driver error, like last time in the dunes with my reversing incident

The position of the exhaust tip is due to half the system being pressed up against the floor :P

EJ conversion wiring harness cut downs available. Please PM or email ([email protected]) for details.
I say leave it standard height or lower, nolothane bushs, stiffer springs, rear sway bar, new shocks, adjustable radius rods and try and get it handling. Thats what i'm doing anyway, everybodys lifting these days. Better handling and quicker and more fuel efficient with the smaller tyres. Why detriment the onroad capabilities when you drive it on road 95% or more of the time. My two cents.

yeh andrew has never got bogged down because of the lag. (but sometimes i dont think he gives it a chance to lol speedfreak). very cabable engine, but so are any other suba engines. u may wanna look at ea82t's too.
but def lift like everyone is sayin- so much more fun.
these subas arent fast enough for a road car

only thing with the turbo offroader is never snatch anybody out with it...andrew has now ripped the front of 2 cars due to *CAUGH EXCESSIVE*CAUGH* power..hehehe...but 3" lift and ej20g is PERFECT combination i think, and after runnin with andrews car for a bit i plan on doing the same conversion too.. its unstoppable
