It lives

Post by stamp_licker » Sun Oct 29, 2006 12:20 pm

how good does the ej22 sound with just headers the motor started first go and sat there purring ,with the family standing on with smiles on their faces.Just got put the dash back in and see if the auto is going to function and tie up a few loose ends. Then another ej L can hit the beaten track with a very happy postie behind the wheel.

The best part of the conversion is when you "have to" drive it to the exhaust shop with just the headers on...

postie,

did you have problems getting a front axle to line up?

also solved the trans mounting problem - it sits high enough so I can reuse the BG5 mount.

re: electical problem , think they address the alternator differently in the L vs liberty. give me a bit and I'll be able to tell you.

Nah tackled something a little more tricky than ea82T swap.
Stinky alternator was buggered, now have a nice 05 wrex job with the simpler wiring and BAM all the lights went off .Thank you subaru gods.Chris the front axles are on bit of a angle forward just gunna run it and see,i can move the motor and box forward about 15 to 20mm if need be and fit the standard lenght auto L tailshaft i think. The rear axles will probably need attention but they look alright ,its only when the wheels are hanging in the air that its stretched like you describe in your post. Also thanks for the offer on alt wiring but i got it sorted and have written a how to in the tech manual.
And now for the really good news got the fault codes cleared traced a few wiring issues and it now idles beautifully without the check engine light on.All thats left is wacking on auto cooler and scoop, wiring in the electric fan and mouting the ecu and tcu and other stuff that can wait.

dont do the scoop postie, it just attracts cops.

sleeper...

by the way stick your head in an auto lib engine bay, the front drive shafts have a fair forward angle on them from factory.

yeah Dane i thought the front shafts would be right.Do you reckon a tranny cooler mounted under the bonnet with out a scoop directing airflow would stiil work?

I would put it in the air stream myself. the OEM one was in with the radiator and t PS 'tube' one was in front of the A/C core. looking at a few nissan patol cores myself (think GU patrol - auto version.) as they are fairly big.

it would sort of work will but when i had the rx with no scoop and the cooler the car was very slugish coz the cooler had so much heat soak, ive got the auto cooler lines from my car sitting here if you want, them might be able to post them or somthing dont want anything for them, only a thought if you want to front mount it???

cheers

The thing with top mounting your tranny cooler is its not going to do bugger all when your crawling slowly through the soft stuff.. even with a scoop. The beauty of front mounting your tranny cooler is your radiator fans draw air through it at low speeds.

Another idea would be to have a fan mounted under the tranny cooler which comes on at a set temp.

Why have you decided against mounting the thing in the front of the car as everyone else does?

I have seen conversions done where the AC condensor it up top under a sccop with a fan on the back and the tranny cooler sitting up front with the radiator a little more forward. Big change to do but mounting the trans cooler up there shouldnt present a problem
