You should have two ports going from the solenoid down to the two ports on the transfer case. The diaphragm should be a gold thing bolted to the box - one of the inlets might be underneath.

The solenoid, in turn, gets vaccum in directly from the inlet manifold.

found a big round thins looks to be a diafram that no hose on so ran a hose to it from the small port on the solenoid < the one tha has vacuum on it when 4wd push button is down on shifter, still no power to rear end !
the big round diafram thing only has one vac hose connection that i can see
should the big diafram have two hoses ?

ok found the diff lock lever , diafram wont move as it should!
new Q why cant i just use a cable and hand engage it ?? any thing in the xfer case to mess up? if one will stop before shifting it

I think you will find both outlet ports on the solenoid going to the diaphragm both have vaccuum. One should pull it into 4WD and one should pull it out of 4WD.

It is possible the diaphragm is stuffed - but make sure the solenoid is providing vaccuum via both outlet ports.

You can do it via hand on the box - haven't seen a cable setup for it.

Yes - there are two ports on it. One is on top - and one is underneath.

well it will pull it out of engaged so i will use a wire to engage it and the button to dienage !
thanks for telling me how it works!

is the vacuum diefram hooked into the xfer case ? or just mounted on the outside of it ?

just wnder why they didnt just install a rod to enaged it ?
Thanks very much for your help!

No problemo.

The diaphragm is linked to a cable that actuates a small lever on the side of the box. You don't have the vac lines the wrong way or anything do you?

I like levers too. The standard dual range model has a lever for 3 positions (2WD, 4WD Hi, 4WD Lo)

And welcome the board, Bob!

THANKS
i tried them both ways , it will disengage when button is up so figure it is hooked up correcty .

yes a lever sure would be better, i expect they used the vac to make it engage smoothly when on the fly!
but i dont mind stopping or nearly stopping to engage!

my wire coat hanger works fine . lol
