That blue one was imported about a year ago and had a price tag of $3500 on it without compliance. The company said compliance would take it up to about $5000.

Personally I like the EA81 hatches much better, do one up right (like SuBaRiNo has, only better/different*) and it would be the best Subaru in Australia I think. Those hatches are just so cool.

Don't really want to go too far off topic. But you asked.
I'd use a 6" lift with connecting braces. nissan t case. 30" mudders. EJ25 DOHC (non-turbo.) AWD D/R box modded with centre and rear lock diffs and L low range. Plus some other stuff.

If even one of them mods was legal i might attempt it.

Reality is... i would never be able to drive it on the road with them mods without getting stickered... and i have looked into a bigger lift kit... (looks great from the side but real gay and unstable from the front). I have settled for more realistic mods. Really hard not to take offence one someone basically says i could have done a better job.

Phizinza that is totally retarded.

Are you saying that Hatch is too tame or something?
Why not just cut Hatch's body shell off and bolt it ontop of a damn monster truck?

Anybody can go totally overkill and make rediculous mods like that, but few people can achieve what Subarino has with Hatch. A well balanced car which dominates offroad while still maintaining complete driveability on the road. While some of it's mods are still technically illegal they are still reasonable and don't attract attention.
Basically if Dave wanted to build a completely stupid car which he can only tow to car shows on a trailer and not actually drive on the road then he could have.
Would be a shame to completely ruin such a rare car though, but like you said, that's what YOU would do!

lol. You took me all wrong.
I just stated thats what I would of done.
SuBaRiNo, I know why you have gone the way you have, and I totally understand. I think it looks great. That video of you hitting that puddle and the guys in the background freaking out was cool. Just shows even though your hatch is a rarity here you still have the balls to drive it.
I am confident with enough money you could get all those mods legal, but enough is a lot. I've seen some pretty amazing things on street cars that have been plated.

Andrew, yes, that is one of my ideas. But doesn't mean that is my only idea. It is rude to make assumptions of what I think about someone elses car.

When I said "do one up right (like SuBaRiNo has, only better) and it would be the best Subaru in Australia I think." I should of put better/different. Saying that you would have to mod one more to be the best Subaru in Australia indicates SuBaRiNo has the best. Which was what I was trying to say in there somewhere.

EDIT: If I had enough money to import a hatch, then I think I'd have enough to do most of those mods. Cause by then I would of won the lotto, I've got 1 too many empty pockets. I'll just stick with my brumby and the cheapo welded diff

6" lift. Nissan transfer case. 30" mud tyres. EJ25 DOHC NA, AWD D/R box with centre diff lock, rear diff lock and L series low range. Sounds like a whole lot of wank to me. Also sounds like a bit of a mismatch of parts.

Why run an AWD box with a centre diff lock? Since you'd be running the Nissan transfer case off the back anyway, why not run an L series box? Why a DOHC EJ25? Is it worth cutting the chassis rails for the minimal advantage (if any) this motor has over a SOHC EJ25? Or an SOHC EJ22 for that matter? Whats wrong with a turbo? Can a 6" Subaru on 30" tyres really go that much further offroad than a 3" Subaru on 27" tyres?

I think someone needs to get out in his shed and prove us wrong. Anyone can stand around in a circle and talk a whole load of rubbish, it takes someone who actually treads the path to convince me.

I've often said I want to see one of these American style Subaru rigs here in Australia. I don't want to build the damn thing either - thats waaay too much time, effort, money and once its built, tears.

Can these Yankee-Suby's reach 110kmh? Can they drive like a car on the road? Isn't that the whole point of a Subaru? Car-like onroad and impressive offroad? I for one don't beleive that one of these Team America monster trucks could hold it to a lifted, locked, tyred and small-blocked Hilux. Thats saying a lot too!
