Subaru News.
Sorry about the delay in getting this news out to the all. Time is of the essence ATM so this will be a little blunt so if you are able to add some clarity to the board then please feel free.
If you have not heard recently Subaru has moved to secure it name and make sure that no other industry and/or business is benefiting from its name. Basically, and bluntly, Subaru has employed some bean counter and they have been employed to send a letter to every company with the word Subaru in it and advise them that if they do not change their name, company logo (especially if it includes the Subaru stars) etc then Subaru will be pursuing this matter in court. I can not help but to think how long it will be before Subaru gets to web based sites – hmmm much like this 1. Time will tell I suppose.

Well Brett could explain it better but as the name of this site is Ausubaru and it is one word it is not a problem. Sunspares Subaru had to change its name (now just Sunspares) as did the Subaru shop in Brendale (they are now Boxer motors) they are just a few of which i have heard

Would be abit harsh to make Ausubaru change its name. It does nothing but promote Subarus anyway!!

As Dave has already pointed out this site is actually AUS ubaru. One word. Pronounced OZsubaru. Not AU-Subaru as a lot of people call it. It was done like this from day dot to avoid any problems associated with using the Subaru name.
It is not a recent thing that Subaru did a dummy spit and made a lot of businesses and websites change their name. Pretty pathetic in my opinion. It is generally enthusiasts that start these businesses and sites to promote the vehicles. Who gives a damn if they are making money? Subaru would be doing very well because of these people.

I agree BYB-01 however they seem do seem to be on a mission and anything that it even close will be getting looked at and AUSubaru looks close to me even if its not intended to, thats all i am saying i like the AUS ubaru and your right its always been like this i just hope it gets to stay like this.

At the end of the day would it really be that much of a drama to just change the name of the forum? We already did it once from when it used to be on the BYB website.

Just watched the program tonight on the ABC about the generic name of UGG or UG or UGH as in boot. The American company Deckers tried to own this as a trademark, but the aussie manufactures of the boots won there appeal to be able to the right to use the name for their products, free of the trademark name, because the court over here struck it off the register. Go the Aussie battler!
Just goes to show what is in a name. Subaru is their product, but self image is everything to marketing, just dont see that anyone would be taking them on.

I really feel we are not at threat here as we are not making any money with the use of the Subaru name. I was going to watch that program on the Ugg boot but i nodded off on the lounge and missed it. Great to hear they won (as they should have never had to contest it in the first place.
