alternator wiring (moved )

Post by robdddd » Mon Aug 14, 2006 11:33 pm

Help required wiring up the alternator from an EJ22 into an EA82 L series sports wagon. Posted in conversion section but no responses so i reposted here!

The following is what I think I have worked out and would like some comments:

(A_A) EJ22 small Black/White wire connects to EA82 White/Red to the warning lamp on the dash

(B_B) Two large White EJ22 wires one from the plug and one from the bolt connection which connect together will get connected to the EA82 main wire heading to the fusible link.

(C_C) Single large white EJ22 wire from the bolt on connection connects to the EA82 Black/White wire heading to the fusible link (note, is it a concern that the EJ2 wire is much larger than the EA82?)

The Green and white wire I have no idea, does not show up on any wiring diagrams I have, the yellow wire from the diagram I have was on a 90-94 liberty only went to a diode and the ignition coil and then main fuse box (DON’T THINK I NEED TO CONNECT THESE?)

Thanks

rob

All 3 large white wires go to the battery.

The Green/Black Lib wire connects to the Whit Red L series wire

The Yellow Lib wire connects to the Black and white L series wire

thanks,

With this info and the arrival of my fuelpump today I should get the motor fired up by Sunday......yippeee!

All I need to do now;

power up the EJ Loom and connect a few more wires and LED light
install fuel pump and hoses
buy and install charcol thingy
fill radiator and gearbox

START

a few more things before i drive it though.

A tip:
swap over the breather hose from the front of the car and use it as a fuel return. Then use the smaller hose which used to be the fuel return as the tank breather.

From memory... if you hook it up like that your battery is going to go flat if the car sits for more than a few days. On Vidlers L series that i did... the Yellow wire needs to be connected to Ignition... not constant 12V... I think u might find that the wire u have connected the Yellow wire to may be constant power... double check this... It could be different between efi and carb L series.

The black and white wire in the L harness should come from a switched power.

Thanks guys,

I will check it out Staurday (still at work now though).

To clarify, it was a carby motor and from what i can recall the Black and White wire on the L side goes to to one of the three fusible links in the box beside the battery and then connects to the battery...ie directly linking to the battery, therfore not switched?

If this is the case I have two queries....
1. What does the Black/White L wire then connect to?
2. as Dave suggested " the Yellow wire needs to be connected to Ignition... not constant 12V..." then could i hook it into the old low voltage side of the now redundant ignition coil from the L???

And with all the above what ended up happening to the Black/White wire from the Lib Alternator?

Sorry to be such a pain.

Rob

Yes u can use the Positive ignition feed from your old coil... i think thats what we did.

OK dude... On the EJ alternator....

All Whites are Constant Power.... this is where the voltage comes out of and this is what regulates the voltage.

Yellow is Ignition. If you hook it to constant your battery will die. I belive this turns the internal voltage regulator on and Off.

Black And White is for the Charge Light.

Anything else just insulate and leave un-connected.

I hope that helps put light on the subject.
