Fixed most of sloppiness in 4spd linkage (4wd)

I fixed all the slop where the shifting fork ataches to the rod sticking out of trannie by making two cuts and bolting it down tight, I saw this on a website somewhere and it worked a treat. Bit of a squeeze doing in the car probably why it took me most of the arvo. Now I just goto get a few bushes and it'll be like new. Also it has been shifting alot better.

I tapered the hole and fitted a taper pin so when it starts to get sloppy again i just tighten it

You can also drop a tac weld on the shaft carefully. Another trick is to grab some second hand bushes from the wreckers and double them up where posible. ie. two bushes where one use to be. Makes the shifter a lot stiffer, even less slack.

I would have to disagree, it does work, or has for me for about nearly 2 years of use. To clarify i was talking about tac welding the "shifting fork attaches to the rod sticking out of trannie". I do agree with if it was done wrong it could stuff up the shaft/seal/fork. I am not saying you must do it this way I was just suggesting another way you can do it, this is what I have done it has worked for me with no problems.

I just replaced the shaft on the gearbox because someone had welded the selector rod on causeing a monumental leak that has been pissing me off for ages. tis all good now with No welding

Fixing it properly always beats the s h i t out of welding overhead under a car.

AARGH!!


Some bastard did that to mine before I bought it and left a blob, enough to keep bashing at the seal, causing it to leak. Luckily a small grinder and bits were enough to make the repair good, and able to replace the seal. The epoxy repair to restore the shaft was rough enough to wear the seal ever so slow, needing replacement every two years.

I wouldn't recommend welding unless really pissed off and desperate !
Sloppy gearshift also enough to piss one off !


Used a nut with a flange or washer built in with grip. Filed the round into its base to match the shaft and used a bolt instead of a pin. Shim material or epoxy resin gunked into the hole with bolt.

Are Brumbies meant to have sloppy gearshifts. Since I bought it 2 years ago, when the car is in gear you can wobble the gear stick like crazy. Is this how they came out of the factory?

No they should have bugger allslop in the shifter, it will either be in the pivot or where we are talking about on the selector rod going into the gearbox

malc the easiest fix is just to replace the tiny green bush at the very bottom of shifter. you probably dont have anything there atm like mine was. this improves shift feel alot. you can do the green bush from underneath the car or from ontop cept you have to take off centre console. its like $5 i think

then theres tranny rod wobble and pivot bush as stated above

new bush might be green but whatever is at the bottom end of the gearstick in my old 4 speed looked black , brown and gritty and pretty sloppy too !


$5 bush is a cheap and cheerful tip !
