Swap out front Air-strut

Post by SUBYDAZZ » Sun Jul 30, 2006 10:58 am

Hey all,

Need to do a change-over on one of my front air struts on the lib (92) real soon.

To anyone that has done this are there any pointers, and how do I go about it? Are you able to swap these over without removing the front drive-shaft. I realise I will probably need a front wheel alignment afterwards, but wanted to know if it is a reasonably straightforward backyard job for me.

Should be easy, the only thing tricky is to get to the wiring connector ( inside the splash guard).
Took about 25 min to do 1 side of the Vortex. 3 nuts, 2 bolts ( on the lib as I remember)

If you mark the position of the castor bolt showing an up line on the head of the bolt, you shouldnt need a wheel alignment.

Yes, we ( who persist with this stuff) have our air suspension problems, but I think that it is worth persisting with , just to get the instant height adjustment at the touch of a button, particularly if you do heaps of road / hwy where low cg is beter for handelling. ( rather than having a constant lift for 5% of overall use)

I'm not putting a 2" lift on a mainly street Vortex, for the occational 4x4 track.
I just wish it would work reliably all of the time.

I hear you Fury. :)

Sounds like it isn't as bad as I suspected it might be, appreciate not requiring to use coil compressors too :D

Yes I had look at the wiring for the connector and it looks like a P***k of a thing to get out / to. I'll budget for a 6-pack of beer (1 hour) with a mate to get it done then.

Cheers,

Dazz

If you are heading down this way, I'll give you a hand, only 2 min from the F3 exit.

Let me know if you are thinking about it, as I'm heading up to QLD again briefly ( about a week), in the next 7 - 10 days, for more on the film shoot.

It aint hard to do Dazz mark the position of the top bolt relative to the hub and put it back where you found it when you replace the strut and the wheel alignment should be pretty much spot on
