Yes you can remove it by using a "Y" piece from a pre Catalytic converter vehicle.Gazza01 wrote:Can i safely remove my Catalytic converter from my 91 Subaru Brumby without causing any damage, and is it lawful in Q'ld. AND what effect will it have on the performance of the vehicle.
It is not lawful in any state or territory to remove a Catalytic converter from a vehicle factory fitted with a Catalytic converter.
It will have no effect on the performance of a standard EA81 motor as all it does is convert carbon monoxide to less harmful gases (if it is working properly) see the link below

It will be as noisy as all heck - those cats really quieten things down on the EA81. If it is a scrub hack not used on roads ADR's won't apply of course
I had a non genuine cat that previous owner did something to - terminal and bloody racket instead of a rattle inside it. Was sub 500 bucks ten years ago !
My arse thinks I got a performance improvement in the way of torque increase when I added am L Y pipe with cat on a previous non catted EA81 1984 vintage
