Working out exact models/variants

Post by Ratbaggy » Sun Jan 11, 2015 4:40 pm

So ... I've been looking at buying a used Liberty, and I'm curious as the information is all slightly different.
The buyer says it's one thing (2008 Liberty Premium MY08), which is only slightly different to what the dealer they bought it from (receipt) says (2007 Liberty Premium MY08), and so I did a CarHistory report ... and it comes back with (2008 Liberty Heritage MY09)

There's gotta be a way to work it all out for sure right?

Where do I start?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Could be 2007 was the manufactured year, but 2008 was the first compliance in Australia year. Eg. my 1989 Brumby has a manufacture date of Nov 1988 but is complianced as a 1989 model. For all intents and purposes your car would be legally seen as a 2008 car, even though it was made in 2007...
1989 Brumby - Shiny new red paint, stroked EJ20 phase 2 SOHC with Darton sleeves bored to EJ22, Wiseco high-compression pistons, Delta 2000 grind cams , EJ/XT6 5 stud with WRX 4/2 pots, 5-speed, 86 GTS seats and so much more.

yeah, figuring as much too. That may settle one aspect, what I'm a bit lost on is the whole Premium/Heritage comparison too ... any ideas if there are noticeable/verifiable differences? Of all the above I'd say the CarHistory report is furthest from 'the source' but it has got its information from somewhere so I figure there must be some weight to it.

the odd thing is it has the sunroof (2-tier), pretty sure it's a power adjustable driver's seat (will check), and farily confident it's all leather trim (though I guess it could be vinyl and haven't realised. The seats are defo leather).

Hmmm detective detective. I'm amazed there's not some key or stand-out feature that says it's either/or.

from looking at the pics I have, it also looks as though the rear windows are tinted too ... which from what I can gather would suggest the Premium. So now I'm confused as to why/how it might show as a Heritage.

Subaru model years starts around april for the next year and can overlap
ie MY 07 starts 01-04-2006 runs to 30-06-2007
then MY 08 starts on 01-04-2007 and runs to 30-06-2008
then MY 09 starts on 01-04-2008 and runs to 31-05-2009
then MY 10 starts on 01-05-2009 and runs to 31-07-2010
then MY 11 starts on 01-05-2010 and runs to 30-06-2011
get the idea
in my book its a heritage which is the premium model

oh I see. I thought heritage and premium were different variants. I understood heritage to be a higher-end model, but not quite a premium.

I quizzed our sales manager yesterday and he verified it
in his words "the Heritage was the Premium"

Thanks FROG. I don't know whether that clarifies or muddies it. But it does perhaps clarify why there has been some confusion.

I took ownership yesterday anyway. Happy with what we got.

Thanks again.
