MY04 Liberty RPM hunting at idle

Post by 555Ron » Wed Jun 25, 2014 5:09 pm

Hi, the RPM on my Subaru Liberty drops off at idle - but only when the air conditioner is on. It idles perfectly if you turn the A/C off. But with it on, when the clutch engages on the compressor the engine begins to die. It seems like the clutch releases at very low RPM and it the revs pick back up. The air conditioning works well during driving and and there is no indication that the compressor is on its way out. Any ideas? I cleaned the MAF sensor but no luck.

When was the last time it had a can of Subaru Upper Engine Cleaner in it?

Good question. I'll grab a can and give it a go. It's not critical which vacuum hose it goes into, is it?

Not really, there's a good one above the throttle body ;)

As for your AC, I'd check the idle up circuit to make sure it's working.

Cheers

Cheers Bennie. It probably is something electrical like that. I think I'll just book it in and pay the money to have it fixed.
