MY fuel filler pipes

Post by El_Freddo » Wed Jul 02, 2014 10:57 pm

G'day,

I'm wondering if the MY fuel filler pipes are the same between the different models - sedan, coupe, wagon and brumby.

I'm asking as I've recently found a rust/corrosion hole in my filler pipe on Redback - I don't want to have water/road grime enter the fuel storage nor leak fuel during filling (I'm OCD on filling to the brim, yes I know you shouldn't do it, but with an hr trip ahead of you I don't see the problem).

Anyone interchanged these? I've got access to another one that's hopefully in good condition.

Cheers

Bennie

the FROG has confirmed there is only two filler part numbers , at least between wagon and utes, the difference being unleaded or leaded. Don't try the wrecker at Castlemain, Giles has had a rep go exhaust their supplies :)

Good to know. Thanks for the tip about Castlemaine (Barker's Creek yeah?) Wrecker, they've not had anything I've been after anyway...

I've got a couple of fillers at M&D's to use. If the only difference is the unleaded filler pipe I should be right for a good one on my parts bombs...

Cheers

and it's not like you are gonna try fill with leaded fuel no more, so the unleaded chastity device is really no longer needed. Forgotten the name of wreckers - they ebay off wheel nuts for Brumby at $5 posted each. Six Brumbies in stock !

Slight hijack, Bennie. I do the same when I fill my car up. Sometimes I don't necessarily drive for an hour after it and I was wondering what issues may come from it??

Happy to break up in another thread.

Pedro.

Well, supposedly you go beyond first click and it is a proper first click the engineers have devised, you should start to fill the small ID breather lines with fuel, may then expand with warmth of day, from hot road, and push it further into the vapour expansion chamber hidden in side panels, maybe choke up the charcoal canister up front and get nasty fuel smells in cabin or in garage at home ....

Dunno Pedro, but I too am guilty of this, not had any fuel smells or anything but I try to avoid it where possible.

Steptoe, I guess the real issue today is confusing the diesel pump from an unleaded pump! Or getting 91 and 98RON confused - then paying a higher price if you don't pick up on it early enough!

Cheers
