PS4 - A buggy piece of crap!

Post by Silverbullet » Sun Jan 26, 2014 2:47 pm

Not sure how many fellow subie nuts are also into video games, but this is for anyone considering a PS4.

I ordered mine back in December for the February shipment since they were sold out completely. Must have got lucky with some left over January stock because I got it this week, awesome! Wrong :(

Hearing stories of the "blue pulse of death" and many consoles being bricked out of the box I was a little worried but those were supposed to be rare cases right? Well mine started up fine, worked great and I got it connected to the wi-fi then installed an update like it asked me to. Then, she shuts down and wouldn't turn back on! Long story short I now have a $500 house brick sitting on my shelf and no help from Sony until Tuesday :( The mob I bought it from said they'll gladly exchange it ASAP...once I've spoken to Sony tech support.

So if you were thinking of ordering one, don't. Give it 6 months until they can get their act together and start making consoles that actually work.
Will it ever end!?

I brought a PS3 when they first came out but really brought it because it was the cheapest BR player on the market. I'm into my FPS games but prefer to play them on PC.

Have you been able to talk to tech support yet? and if so, how did you go?

It's back to the old adage about not buying the first series.

The first (fat box) PS3s are still known for being overheating wasters.

I'm lurking for a PS3 runout bargain to play the latest Gran Turismo.

Oh I didn't see this at all sorry Paul; I rang Sony and as soon as I described the symptoms they said they'll just send me a new one. I got an email postage label to send my old one back for free (they didn't even want the controller or cables back) and express posted me a new complete system with another controller etc, so outstanding customer service on Sonys part.

Got the new one and installed the mandatory update (this time it was ver 1.6 not 1.5) and all is sweet, works great. Haha I know about not buying the first, but they were out months ago I thought they'd have the bugs out by now

No worries :) Glad to hear it's sorted. I've had no trouble with my PS3 but I don't use it for games, so I guess this is way it's lasted the distance. A friend also setup the media centre, so I can watch movies, listen to music and look at pics straight off my PC via WiFi.. so cool
