L-Series flares?

I have a set of 15x7 Superlites on my RX but they are for the Brumby offset so they stick out a little bit.
Am chasing a set of flares that are fairly asthetically pleasing, or if that's not possible will be getting the guards cut & fibreglassed. I think both options is going to cause problems with the rear door cause am needing to take a good inch off the radius of the wheel arch to get ample clearance.
Any help/advise would be much appreciated.

ARB have 35mm ruubber flares, but I doubt it would give the asthetic look I think your after...maybe if painted, but on rubber? doubt it.

"fairly asthetically pleasing"? Then really your only option is the cut and fiberglass one. The 84 Bushgaurd Hilux flairs look really sweet when modded to a Brumby... but only if it's lifted and running 30"+ tyres.

Thanks guys, looks like I'm gonna go the cut/fibreglass option.
Was just that I saw a very nice looking Sprinter with bolt on flares that looked the goods, was just seeing if there was something similar available for the old L-Rocket.

Sorry, nothing other than the rubber universal flares. Us 4WD try-hards with mud tires hanging out the guards gave up looking years ago.
Monster Subaru sold to a good home!! Still a Subaru owner. Will try stay in the Ausubaru loop. Sorry :cool:

The front shouldnt be too much of a problem as you can just lean back holding the guard and they will pull out. With the rear you would have to make the door flare out. The door seal is far enough in to get a decent flare.

Cheers guys.
Need to take about 2" out of the rear so need to cut the door as well and will take about an inch out of the front.
Am nervous about taking to it with a grinder but it's no show car to start with :lol:

qik have you looked at getting the wheels mahined to bring the offset in, i would maybe tryand get hold of bolt on flares or something so you have something to start with!!

I am only asking as if you REALLY want them to fit under then another option you have to get arches pumped/rolled.

How do i know? ages ago a mate saw my mags brought a set and then had the extra $ to get his arches pumped to accommodate the wider rubber. I think that it was a little expensive however well worth it as she looked fantastic.

Surely there are more you could mix and match with...

are fibreglass flares OK to use for your intended application?

No I haven't, wouldnt really like to go that option as I don't think there is enough material to machine enough to bring them back under the guards completely.

Dont think I can go the bolt-on option as I've realised I will have major dramas with opening the back doors. Need to take out about 2" out of the rear guards & into the rear doors so a bolt-on will seal the doors closed. Will have to cut a seam into the flares for the rear doors to open so only a solid flare would be able to be easily modified.

I havent done it yet, just seeing what my options were before taking to it with the grinder. There is not enough material to be able to stretch (pump) out over the rear tire so rolling & pumping the guards isnt an option. Would prefer the smooth look of it being fibreglassed so am going to take that option.

an idea for you...

make up a bit of boxing around the current wheel arch (eg run some cardboard around the whole arch so it sticks out parallel) and go round the whole thing with expanding foam.

that stuff will stick to anything, especially if you prep it properly

then just carve it with a sharp knife when it sets and roughly sand it to where you want it

go over the top with some fibreglass to make it all nice and tough


oh and...
just make a cut where the rear door goes when its still at the foam stage and sand that back to leave enough room to go over with some fibreglass


bit of effort but could look really trick!

oh and if you go this way... could also stick a bit of foil between the car and the foam/fibreglass and have them bolt on when your finished

this way you can easily make reproductions too!

There is a bit of rust in one of the rear guards so I don't think I could easily pump it out. Looks like is gonna be a fairly major job so just gotta get someone to give me some help cause I fix computers, not cars for a living :oops:

Cheers for that Bill, but you'll never believe this. I got an offer on car this morning that I'm going to take so it's going up to a guy in Gladstone in the next few weeks.
Will be sad to see it go as I've put so much into it but I gotta move on. Got a couple of other projects underway already...
