MY Brake Booster Upgrade?

Post by Matatak » Sun Sep 30, 2007 1:34 pm

so if i was to change my brake booster over what ones can i use or is it best to get another replacement

i have a Liberty Parts car with intact booster and Master cylinder so is it possible to use both of them?
i no the master cylinder would fit onto the original MY booster but i need a new booster neway so a new M/cylinder really wont help me much.

ne1 ever put a new one in? wt do people do when they are puttin all WRX brakes or the likes into their cars do they just use the Cylinders?

hmmm so is it as simple as bolt in to replace the booster?
ie do the mounting bolts line up is it the same set up for the Pedal Linkages and same setup for attaching to the master cylinder?

guess ill be taking the Lib one off tomorrow either way

Its not simple to bolt in the Lib booster, they are a larger diameter and require some riggling to get them in then you have to adjust the pushrod.

yeh adjust the pushrod to the same length as the one you take out and you may need to tap the inner guard out a bit and back in once the booster is bolted up

so is the pushrod adjustment the only thing which needs attention when converting it?

not having touched a booster or brake mast cylinder at work how easy shall it be for me?
obviously the master cylinder needs to coem right off i guess which means i may aswell change my front disks over now have to bleed them neway

been looking at my MY booster, it is smaller than L series in diameter. The STi powered Brumby i spotted last week had an unfamiliar booster and master cylinder with the std brakes and he claimed it stopped fine. Certified too it was !!

im running an L series booster in the brumby and it seems to be a big difference over the MY one

needed to bash the strut tower out to get the booster in
then had to bash the strut tower in to clear the struts

You could also use the smaller L booster with the lib master cylinder

well Booster definetely works now and teamed withed the Lib amster cylinder also makes a huge improvement over the overall braking performance (from wt i can remember when my old booster and M/cylinder actually worked :p)

Stops good now.

I bought Liberty BOOSTER and MASTER CYL (15/16" bore) from wreckers. I will be able to fit the BOOSTER with a bit of judgling, but I have a Nabco 13/16" currently attached to my Brumby Booster. The Nabco 13/16" Master Cyl has a longer bore compared with the Liberty 15/16" Master Cyl with no brand name. Has anyone tried the Liberty Booster with the Standard Nabco 13/16" master Cyl vs the Liberty 15/16" shorter bore Master Cyl attached re performance braking.
