06 Outback roof rail loose

Post by matt462 » Sat Jun 22, 2013 5:37 pm

Hi all,

I have a 2006 outback and the roof rack rail on the front passenger side has developed a rattle. If try to lift the cross bar I notice the rail move slightly.

If there a way I can tighten the rail mount point ?

Thanks for your help

Matt

I think you will have to remove the roof lining to get to the bolts to tighten it
Current rides: 2016 Mitsubishi Triton GLS & 2004 Forester X

This +1 I had the same issue on my Forester. Replaced the original nuts with Nylocs and threadlocker glue.

Be sure to clean out any gunk that may have gotten under it and on the roof so as to not allow any chances for rust. Mine has a rubber seal that had gone too so I fixed it with some black silicone. (Wear gloves, black silicone stains your hands like crazy)
Otter the 2004 Outback with all the fruit.

Hi guys,

Thanks for your help. I was hoping for something that didn't involve removing the roof liner. Not sure I'm up for that. May need to pay someone to look at it.

Cheers

Matt
