Should Heater controls be illuminated

Hi I have recently purchased a 96 RX Liberty Wagon, are the heater controls meant to be illuminated, all the buttons have their led's working, but at night the slider controls are pitch black, thought I had better ask before dismantling the unit to check for a blown globe.

The slider controls on the EJ's don't seem to be illuminated and I can't remember if the colour strip is illuminated like it is in the L series.

So have you had a go at swapping the lights? And if so has it fixed the issue?
