Venom: H6 Gen2 Liberty GX
Rhys i have had cusco front LSD diffs and would strongly recommend you dont go there. They bang and clang and jump , hop skip. They are in my opinion not suitable for road use. I replaced a Cusco front LSD in my Brumby [ gearbox is now in my Gen 3 Outback]with an STi front diff [ i believe they are Torsen] and havn't looked back. the car drives like car and if and when you need a front LSD the torsen can be further engaged by taping your brake pedal to simulate load. I don't know about the OBX ones but if they are half as good as an STi torsen then that is the way to go.
I am considering it. The helical types, and i've seen this mentioned more than once:Jeff wrote:Rhys i have had cusco front LSD diffs and would strongly recommend you dont go there. They bang and clang and jump , hop skip. "...works well as long as the low torque wheel still has some grip and some available torque, but if you lift a wheel in a fast turn it will immediately revert to zero torque all around like an open differential"
I've already had a Torsen in my car and i wasn't entirely happy with it off road. I didn't know the brake tapping trick though, but i'd prefer to prevent the wheel spin in the first place.
Did you have a 2 way, 1.5 or 1 way? I'm looking at going with a 1 way. Did you buy it new, or second hand? There's a pretty detailed break in procedure for the KAAZ diffs, and if not broken in properly it states they will be noisy. I'm guessing the Cusco would be similar?
I came accross this guy from RPW in Perth mentioning major noise issues with Cusco's put in Ralliart cars. :

I suppose ads on Rslib and the various wrx forums. I'm sure it will sell eventually.
The money isn't so much an issue as i need an alternative ASAP. I need an LSD to get to the builder this week, because he's got another gearbox to build and install next week... and it's already Thursday.

Worth the wait. Should be very niceVenom wrote:Cusco 1 way type RS LSD is on it's way from Japan. Good price too, less than the KAAZ's. RS type is supposed to be silent, or damn close to it.
Delayed the gearbox by a good 2 weeks though.

Huh that sucks mate. Not sure what my approach is going to be. I'm obviously not doing the work myself so to be honest i don't exactly understand what the problem is, which makes it difficult to know what to do about it. In hindsight perhaps a complete transfer/center diff housing thing would have been better, but there is/was nothing like that available. Or maybe a complete DCCD gearbox. Just not sure what to do, so I've been ignoring the problem for a good 3 weeks.
Going back to an L series is starting to look appealing. Factory center lock on the fly, too easy.

Yeah I've been ignoring the same issue for a good 4 months hah. Yeah I think the easy way to go would have been the whole rear transfer case, bolt in mod.
The output shaft that I have from my 99 lib has the splines in the right spot but needs a bearing surface near the bearing at the back of the case. I think that's the easiest way out of this.
I guess lesson learned and if anyone is looking to do the dccd mod you need the whole rear transfer case! Better still get the whole V4 STI box and get the good front lsd with it.
Have considered the L series center but really don't like the car being FWD especially with the H6. Maybe with the vortex AWD center but then I'd worry about breaking it :/

Gearbox is back in the car. I ended up finding the DCCD output shafts on gumtree, very lucky. Cusco is fitted up front, KAAZ in the rear and the DCCD in the middle. DCCDPro is wired up, although the switches aren't hard mounted in the center console yet. Still need to put the interior back together, replace one of the driveshafts and tidy up some wiring. Unfortunately I didn't end up finishing the car before I had to fly back to work. Hopefully I will be breaking in the diffs in 3 weeks.
