rear hubs same MY and L 4WD ??

rear hubs same MY and L 4WD ??
Just wondering, if the rear bearing hub itself on 4WD MY and L's are the same thing and interchangeable - seeing as though the bearing par number is the same, and L discs fit MY hubs...just got a suspected collapsed hub giving intermittent rotor runout scraping, then grumbling then bliss...now found free play in rear wheel when jack up for starters. Of the three L series 4WD I have wrecked over the years never considered worth keeping a rar hub for my L sedan ??
Would like to be able to overhaul a hub and swap in to avoid disappointment. Have access to spare MY rear hub, not so easy for L rear hub....
transfer to asking too fast department - hubs might be same but the hub is integral part of swing arm and from memory the swing arm length is not the same...
Just doing an MY rear bearing now, have got the modern one piece cone set up, has both cones and the big tubular spacer all as one piece instead of two normal taper bearings and spacer tube.....good practice for the L Sedan when job comes up

99.9% sure they have the same splined stub. I've never had 2 side by side to compare, but like you say, everything swaps over and bearing numbers are the same.
Andy might be able to check part numbers for you?
Your play could come from bearings, worn spline or loose or incorrectly fitted taper washer?

MY and L series rear hubs are interchangeable BUT you also need the matching drum brake setup. MYs have manual adjustment drum shoes and the L series have the auto adjusting drum shoes. The backing plates are different to accommodate this.
So yes, interchangeable but no, not a 5 minute job!

I was under the impression that they were the same length, just the position on the K frame (but I could be wrong, as I've never actually measured them) was different and the L.Series ones have the bump stop pad on them.

I was talking about simply swapping the L series drum to the MY - you need the matching backing plate otherwise you'll have an issue when it comes to braking!steptoe wrote:Eh? Aren't L Series arms with the hubs in the end longer than MY ? - talking 4WD both generations
But I think the arms are about the same length as each other - just that they don't fit each other's K frame from what I've seen...
