new soob owner with more problems.

Post by Cynical » Thu Jun 29, 2006 9:54 am

just a smal problem this time, ok details 82 MY wagon. it appears i'm blowing the 15A fuse for the tail lights and instrument backlight. any suggestions on what to look at first would be greatly appreciated.
i'm an electronics tech by trade, so i've got about all the gear i need for testing, i'm just not much of a mechanic, this is the first car i've ever really worked on... and so far i've fixed 'most' of my problems..

Cheers

That was my initial thoughts, just that its alot of area to cover, dash to tail lights... was hopeful someone might know a common problem.. worth a shot!

also, can a bad alternator blow fuses?

i recall having a similar prob, not with the alt, but with shorting out fuses...
Once was when i took off the roof lining, then i put it back up and put a screw thru a wire.. cant rememebr if that blew fuses or just stopped my interior lights.. it was a pita furing out where i muffed up, finally found it and fixed it.
another instance where i blew fuses.. i cant remember what it was for, but there was a wire hanging around where the pedals are, and when i put in the clutch or brakes, it applied too much force on the wires and blew the fuse.. prolli not much help to you at all :p just dribbling sh!t.

appears the alternator might have been the problem, i got a reco'd alt, and now the fuse doesn't blow.

not sure if that makes any sense, but hey.. its workin.

Cheers for all ya help.

sounds possibable, i had an altanator blow an amplifier, and the more elec stuff i had on and it would stop cutting out... silly eh... but true... i replaced the altanator very quickly but after the amp died :(
