Factory EA82 option in 93/94 Brumby ??

Isnt the EA82 a tight fit between the MY's chassis rails? Maybe the dealer mechanics has a Subaru genuine sledge hammer for widening the engine bay.

I thought they stopped making them at end of 1992 ? ( for Australia anyway )

That did nort stop them from selling them. Think I have seen a 94 complianced Brumby made in 92. Dear as all stuff when they came to an end

My thoughts too. I also thought that compliance occurred once it came off the docks. I doubt they'd be paying for a few units to hang around on the docks that long before being complianced!

You hear different stories. Hard to explain how I had two red Jaffas built in sep 1985. One had a 10/85 compliance plate date, the other, my Project Cheap Grief a 3/87 yet their VIN are about 179 apart ! Did the latter sit about in Japan or Oz for near eighteen months ?

The brumby was built by Fuji until 1992 and that was it no more bodies in stock. they had finished stock sitting at Fuji up until 1995. so it could be possible that the EA81 was pulled and the EA82 was optioned to get the vehicles sold. I've heard stories of the factory EA82 brat in the USA but have had no conformation of this.

Yes, you're Right!

LADM (Latin American Domestic Market) is a Weird place where you will see Oddball cars more frequently than any other place in the World.

What happened is that FHi has many Brat / Brumby Bodies leftovers and the production of the EA81 ceased earlier than the EA82, so in order to sell those unused bodies, they fitted carburated EA82's on Brats / Brumbies, and yes, those are Tight fit in there.

How I knew that info? ... The Local Subaru dealer owned a Red '94 Brat with a carburated EA82 Front Wheel Drive 5MT; I saw it many times when I went to hunt for spare parts at their place; once I saw it with the front trunk open and saw the EA82 there, so I asked about and they told me that the very last Brats sold where EA82's.

Ahh Jeszek, some say in here - "no photos - never happened"

Why they did not fit an EJ in at the time - the EJ must have been three to five years old at the time, even if it was one of those carby dizzy EJ would have better clearance than the EA82 !

A) Because they didn't think that far ahead,

B) Because they needed to use up their existing EA82 stock

C) Probably would have needed different compliancing

My thoughts exactly. I have a MY Touring wagon with a EA82 and the rails are pushed out. I also think the EJ18 Carby model would have been the best option

The Subaru idea was to Finish all the EA Stuff inventory, that includes Bodies, Transmissions & Engines.

You know how Complicated and Expensive could be to fit an EJ engine to an EA transmission: it requires an Adaptor plate... No car company will sell a car built using such a thing...

And using the EJ transmission along an EJ engine on the Last Bodies of the second gen Subaru Brat / Brumbi does Not make any sense, because Subaru already had the Third Gen, but subaru was facing hard finnancial times then. (Another reason to sell all the Unused Bodies + Engines in Latin America)

The Third Gen Subaru Brat / Brumbi (Yes it used a full EJ engine + Trans) was made only as Prototypes, named:

Wow, too bad we never got to see these. I think it looks good and would have sold here well continuing on from the Brumby. Never heard of the Suiren before.

And if it wasn't called a brumby I don't see how it could taint it's legendary status - but if this did come out then the brumby might not be the legendary unit it is today, rather it could have been the forgotten predecessor of the suiren.

Maybe they've still got some of the tooling to still build something like this but with different front end styling to make it a bit more consumer friendly!

A bit like the US Baja although I don't think that was a Brat replacement. Off topic anyway...

So EA82 utes were only released in Latin America? There can't have been very many.
