new subi owner with problems

Post by Cynical » Thu Jun 22, 2006 7:22 am

ok, so i recently bought a 82 MY 4sp man dual range wagon, i've been reading these forums for tips etc an USMB for a while now, but i've run into my first big problem.

car's history, purchaded for 650, replaced starter motor, rocker cover gasket, my mechanic did he clutch, engine mounts and i think 'harmonic balancer' ?? - (getting to the edge of my mechanical knowledge on that one)

problem- car won't stay in first gear, starts to take off, then feels like i've put the clutch back in again.

is this gearbox? or clutch?? i'm hoping clutch coz thts the mechanics problem since he just replaced it.

Thanks in advance for you help.

Does it stay in first if you hold it in place?

Could be your clutch is stuffed, or you've got an oil leak from your rear main seal that's causing the clutch to slip.

detent ball springs and ball bearing area - broken spring - up in the selector area

does it flop out of gearstick position back to neutral when you are backing off the gas pedal but hold if you hold pedal down ?
