Woman needs help:) Which water pump 105 or 110mm?

Post by arty1 » Fri Feb 01, 2013 10:27 am

Hi everyone. l'm having the timing kitted out & oil pump seals. l've been talking to my local Bursons about a GMB water pump for my Suby 92 Leone DL EA82 engine and they have 2 listed. The 105mm is for DL & Leone & the 110mm is for DL only.He says it can only be measured once its off but l want to be able to order it before the mechanic takes it off. Is it easy for me to remove myself? I asked if he could order both and send the wrong one back, nope. Any suggestions? Thanx:)

The problem is that parts books are often wrong as all GL and DL Leone models models had the same water pump, only the Vortex with the ribbed belt after 1987 had the 105mm pump

This is the info you are after... www.ausubaru.com/EA82 water pump differences found !!

Specifically...

to run V belts USE 110mm deck height
So I'd say you have V belts so you want the 110mm pump

You blew your cover ! :) That is a typical blokey question you know, especially when we have those parts books leading anyone astray !

You'll likely find there is two different prices , with the not so common one dearer by about ten bucks. Same pump and all just the round steel flange pressed on the shaft at a different height. The deck height is measured from the engine block mating face to the flange and can't recall if it is to or including it...and just to correct Gannon, I have an 86 made date Vortex with the multi ribbed belt in turbo form, it is 1987 compliance dated though :)
I went on the advice of ordering the one for the turbo for my other turbo and was still the wrong one, no need to return it, just pressed flange further up or down the shaft.

If you search terms like EA82 water pump by steptoe probly find a whole heap of trash from five years ago or so....

I can quite easily get a measure off my exposed turbo Vortex with ribbed pulley and see....

So does your 86 built Vortex have a spider manifold even though its only a 3 plug ECU?

I was under the impression that only 4 plug ECU, spider manifold EA82's got the ribbed belt.

86 built turbo EA82 is std inlet manifold, likely is a 4 plug ecu as it is the gutless dizzy with no vac can either. EDIT BS ! It is confirmed as a 3 pluggers dizzy with module and vac can !

I still need to remove four nuts to measure its pump , but, the 87 model carb block waiting for 500,000 to roll around on my EA81 has a GMB pump and is 110mm from block face to outside edge of pulley flange (makes sense that it is measured to outside edge too ).Between the inside edge of flange and pump body is about 12mm.

you'll likely need the 110mm deck height, and if not is easy for mechanic with a vice or press to shift to 105mm deck height.

some ea82's got twin v pulleys for both pump, alternator and crank , maybe they got same pump as flat ribbed belt turbos.

bottom line 110mm Yvette :)

Nah, I've always seen it as a vortex thing as most vortex's I've seen in the parts yards have the ribbed belt. These were not turbo nor did they have the spider manifold.

arty1 - welcome to the forum! I used to live down in Lakes for 6 months between snow seasons in 2010/2011, dunno if you ever saw Ruby Scoo around in that time...

Cheers

Tony, do you recall twin V belts as standard ? Or flat ribbed belt then ?
