Fuji's white body gap filler MY and L ???

Post by steptoe » Fri Feb 01, 2013 4:06 pm

Anyone know much about it ? It is the stuff used to seal between or just gap fill between panel junctions - and the sunroof gutter of the Vortex :D

By now it is quite brittle and will break off in chunks revealing fresh clean mild steel panel - reminds me of house painters gap filler.
I have found a post elsewhere describing removal by 1500C heat gun. I am wondering if it needs that, or will a chemical approach work - some sort of solvent ?
Any knowledge imparted is appreciated :)

I have a near rust free halo to remove from a wreck, and believe it is only spot welded at the sides, the rest of it bonded ??

I think it's just seam sealer. Dunno much about it myself, but I do know modern cars rely more and more on bonding agents and seam sealers for certain panels...it's going to make restoring them alot harder! :o
Will it ever end!?

I would have thought that the obvious replacement for this white sealant is white sikaflex!

My vote is on heat gun, you dont need 1500 degrees though just a home handyman special. All i ever use is a wire cup brush on a four inch grinder but wearing long sleeves and decent gloves.
87 targa brumby (Neglected),
92 targa brumby (weekend runabout),
97 Lifted Outback (Dailey drive),
05 outback safety (Too cheap to pass up),
90 model liberty (was to be scrapped instead sold to workmate)
+ others.

thanks, not yet to replace the gunk, and access to this stuff is nil as it is a bonding goo between the skins, so need to be ready and have my spot welds drilled out - hopefully all of them, then start on the heat release trick.

Shoulda bought a PDR glue cutter whale tail tool - be handy here. An old kitchen knife reshaped may work ....
