You'd like to think it doesn't , but NSW RMS & ACT RTA are rejecting rego applications if the engine prefix code ie EJ or EA is not supplied on the form as part of the engine number - think they trust no-one , not even themselves it seems. WA has now started recording the engine code and number on the rego papers.. i.e. EJ20-625435 or EJ16-113425

There is still no indication (other than HP) whether or not it's turbo.

When I take my cars over the pits, they quiz me everytime (I guess they know I'll bite), they ask why would I go from 2.2ltr to 2.0... I say because it's turbo and they keep saying they don't care if it has 10 turbos :o

As long as the HP hasn't increased buy more than 20% then no engineers report needed. I always use the HP from the 93 model RS ;)

Lucky buggers in WA, but it is a bit like the loop holes in NSW as to whether the car is registered at the time a "better" engine goes in, such as a 3.8 V6 into an old HZ ute. Only concern wasa to get the engine number updated. Is only of a concern for a blue slip original rego inspection and application.

NSW has 90 days to renew rego before needing to do the big inspection...
How far out of rego is this creation and what is the time limit to renew rego once expired before needing the big inspection - safety and identity ?

When Australia finally ditches the state regulation and go for a national scheme used in all states - sounds like the WA is one to look at with interest :)

We have 3 months after the rego runs out to pay it but the car can't be driven once it's run out, the op's car has registration, he's just not sure if it's legally registered with a 2L turbo or the original 16L n/a, provided nothing is stolen or it's on the national unregisterable car list he "should" be fine, may just need an inspection but if the rego numbers match it's probably all fine to go as is, just needs to inform the insurance company and see what they say as they rip him a new asshole.

There are cars running around that are 50/60/maybe even 70yrs old that have never been inspected since they left the factory.

While we are talking engine numbers, why is there no mention of EJ20G anywhere in the engine number on my engine, just 180096. Was the EJ20G designation only on the VIN plate?

EJ20 is stamped on the block, C designates FWD 1.6/1.8 na....G designates turbo, only found on the VIN plate.

On the insurance policy it says the car is a N/A 1.6L. This is because they most likely got the engine information off the VIN we gave them in the beginning. Today we contacted them and said that the car has turbo and they happily changed it on their system. Soon we will inform them it is a 2.0L, then everything should be okay on the insurance end.

My dad is with an insurance broker. All our cars, truck, business equipment, ect go though that. I think the Impreza is insured with Allianz.

Allianz wouldn't touch my Liberty when I told them it was modified but seeing as dad has lots of things insured they may find a little space for you ;)

Telling them it's a 2.0L engine and has turbo, the only things I need to change on the policy? Do I have to tell them it's an AWD? The type of fuel it uses? Or is it just the engine they are concerned about?

With insurance companies, tell them everything...that way there is no 'out' for mods not disclosed.

I have seen claims denied due to an aftermarket stereo being fitted. The ins company claimed that the car would not have damaged/broken into if it was not for the non-OME CD player.

Same applies to wheels, induction/power mods, anything really.

Exhaust, suspension, basically anything that is different from the standard car that VIN indicates it is.

Also you MUST tell them if you've ever lost any demerit points and in future if you lose any you MUST inform them as soon as you are notified by the police, otherwise they can come back with "had we known we would not have insured you" complete and utter bastards.

Just tell them it's a complete WRX transplant if you want to go down that track, I guess it's a tax deduction for your old man but if you are going to have to fork out stupid money I'd just go 3rd party

No rules really, just pay monthly or yearly, provided your car is roadworthy "ish" the other car/property is covered, you on the other hand get nothing but your wreck back, the only bad thing is if you get hit by someone who is uninsured you'll have to deal with it, Shannons take $4.46 out of my account every month...........Actually that sounds too low but the car will be sitting in a garage for 10-11 months a year for a while.

There is also 3rd party fire and theft which is much the same but you have "some" cover, maybe check it out and see if it's worth it, but I think you'd only get the value of a 96 FWD Impreza if something happens.

Bug sti on was 6spd and brembo's. Engine should be EJ207 or EJ257 on the build plate.
