Okay I will remove the front wheel tomorrow.
Alex, you said that the number plates are very new. Does that mean the car has gone over the pits recently? Also, can anyone tell me where I can find the engine number (Not just the engine model)?

The engine number is on the back left (passenger side) of the engine near the bellhousing and starter motor.

Is the engine number meant to start with EJ20Gxxxxxxxx? Because I can see some small engravings but none start with G or EJ20.

it won't start with EJ20 but it is either a mixture of numbers and letters or just numbers.

this is where to look

Well it's possible it was an sti donor car or front cut as it has cast control arms.

Also it has vented discs on the rear, so proper turbo items.

Good spotting of the alloy front control arms Nev! So parts possibly came from a STI front cut, so the engine could be an STI version.
And yes they are WRX brakes as they are 2 pots up front and vented in the rear.

Can you tell us what the numbers on the ECU are?

Pull up the carpet in the front passenger foot well. There will be a large metal cover held with 3 bolts, the ecu is under it.

Here is a photo of the top of the ECU. Also, how I do upload photos that don't need to be click on to see them, like what Gannon just did?

You need to use a third party image hoster and use the [ img ] code.

Is that red paint wet-rub residue on the ecu? I wonder if its possible the donor car was red like the front bumper?

See if you can read the 'vf..' Number off the turbo too, assuming its an ihi turbo, if its Mitsubishi it will have a 'td..' Number

If you have uploaded the image to your album in your profile, there is an option under the image called bbcode. copy the whole code and paste it in the message/post. then the picture will appear in the message/post once it is submitted. if you upload it as an attachment to the post it will only be clickable.

The Z4 ECU is used in the WRX and or STI from what information I can find for it on google. (this is all from google so I take no resposibility for the reliability of the information)

Well here is a photo of the plate over the ECU as well. Also, there are red and blue cables running around the car everywhere, what are they for?

[ATTACH]3800[/ATTACH]

Here is a photo of the side of the turbo (at least I think it's the turbo). I can't find any label or engraving starting with vf or td. Pretty hard to read. Once part says "352X"

[ATTACH]3801[/ATTACH]

Also I still can't find the engine serial number. I'm not sure if these are it or not.

EJ's are funny with numbers but I think you have it up the back there starter motor side.

That thing you think is the turbo may just be the exhaust manifold in cast iron. I know very little about EJ and turbo versions of....
those cables of blue and red look like big stereo speaker cables oxygen free copper ??

cables are for the stereo... I'm guessing the whole car vibrates when it is up loud.

this is your engine number

the other number is for matching the block halves.

Z4 ecu is 95-96 wrx and is slightly more powerful than the previous 93-94 wrx. Sti had a 6K ecu.
If the engine came from a sedan, the turbo will be a TD05, from a wagon it will be the slightly smaller but more responsive TD04.

So is it easy to get new VIN and compliance plates? Tomorrow I will notify you guys if the rego papers have the wrx engine or the old 1.6L LX engine on there.
