'GULL' fuel

Has anyone else experienced the difference in their car when they've been using 'GULL' fuel for ages and then swap to another supplier?
All I can say to 'GULL' is, stick your fuel, what crap!!!!
I have a totally different car since I changed fuel suppliers. No tappet noise, no surging, starts first thing in the morning and even feels like it has more power.

This might not be the right forum for this comment, but it may help others who are having running issues.

So are you saying that the fuel you buy from Gull servo's is no good ??,in your experience.

my car cries if i even slow down near a gull service station.

No really, im not sure about the city ones but down south (bunbury ish) gull fuel is noticeably bad extra pinging, harder starting.

Thats the one. I have had numerous people tell me this in the past, but had never experienced it, so thought nothing of it. Not until I moved around the corner from one and started using it all the time and my car started playing up. Runs like a new car now I use another fuel supplier.

Maybe I should re-phrase my original message to - GULL fuel, no good for my soob.

I shouldn't bag them cos it effects some cars and not thousands of others out there. Just thought this message may help others who were having issues with their cars.

Only fuel I run is BP Ultimate. Everything else is cat-piss IMHO.
Problem is I have found (as have others) that different servos have a different brew. There should be a crackdown on this: I swear I have had less than 98 octane from a few BP's when I've paid the extra for it.

Note: We don't get Optimax here in WA - so stop telling me how good it is!

just a side note, there doesnt appear to be anything here in whyalla that my car would even think about running from (lucky i didnt bring it), except for this interesting bowser at the airport avgas 100. Is this actually just 100 octane fuel or is it some special brew of its own?

What im really whating for is to try out the shell 100 extreme ethanol blendy fuel .. but again its not in wa yet.

Did ya know that in Victoria at least, Mobil 8000 is the same as BP Ultimate. Ie comes from the same refinery, only branded differently

if you guys want some good fuel try martini racing fuel its legal it dear but. Weve dynoed a few cars at work with it get about 10 to 20 more HP my boss uses it in a race car good stuff. It come in 98 & 100 i think.

I've noticed no difference between optimax and ultimate, never used anything else in the outback, wouldn't use anything else after a variety of experiences in the MY.

My Lib(EJ20T) does not like Caltex Vortex, it makes it sluggish and uses more of it per km, BP ultimate is better but Shell Optimax seems the best for it, better power, better fuel economy.

My car EJ20T around town will use the Caltex Vortex 95 very quickly but will do alright on BP Ultimate but performs best with Shell Optimax. But out on the on the open road the Vortex isnt a bad option. The only Fuel i wouldnt recomend with a turbo is the Ethanol Blends as whilst they claim to have the same octane rating as the non blendeds they definately use the blended at a way way way faster rate

im not that bothered about fuel efficency with my car.. i just want it not to detonate.. has anyone had any experience with the ethanol blends because they are supposed to be higher octane.

i only have 2 choices atm mobil or bp my ej20t seems ok on the mobil 95 and on ultimate but when the shell was open up here i used there 95 ron and the car seemed best on it, dont seem to be getting the ks out of mobil and bp is 10c a ltr more for some reason

Usually the ethanol blends use a lower RON fuel and use the ethanol to bring it back up to normal levels then they can sell it abit cheaper.

I had a thread around here somewhere about my experiences with it.

In SA it's only really been possible to get 98 octane reasonably recently, from about the time LRP was phased out. Before that "premium unleaded" was only ever 95, so it's not surprising that some of the smaller centres still wouldn't have anything better than 95 octane unleaded.

You probably wouldn't want to run avgas as the last time I had anything to do with this fuel it was leaded, not sure if that's changed as it's been a few years now since I've been out at the airfield. The 100 probably would be the octane rating.

If your cars require the good stuff, ie 98 octane or better, don't come up to Darwin without some octane booster.

Best we have up here at the pump is 95 RON.

Subaru tells me the XT Forester will run happily on 95, however would much prefer to have Optimax available. I add some octane booster every three tanks or so.

I suppose I will do the same with the RX Wagon when I get it on the road.....................
