Ignition noise in radio

Have just installed new radio. I am getting ignition noise when tuning is just off the station.
With previous points ignition, there was a resistor that I think was connected to the ballast on top of the coil.
Now with electronic ignition, and no ballast, where do I connect this resistor? Positve or negative side of coil? I am assuming it is a noise suppressor.

Ill go with the +ve side of the coil connect the red wire of the suppressor

The electronic ignition doesn't have the resistor. The module controls the dwell electronically, so if you put a resistor in line you will reduce volts.

Really you should check your leads, if the noise is really bad thats the culprit - either the leads are not terminated to the end connectors or micro cracks in the insulation etc etc.

You can get leads that will eliminate this noise from your local auto shop.

What brand of radio did you buy? Cheap ones very commonly do this and there isn't a lot u can do about it. Having said that there are some filters on the market that may help.

Also... is it more of a wine that speeds up with engine speed or is it more of a clipping noise.

Clipping is caused by the ignition system... whining is usually caused by the alternator.

Name brand decks usually have inbuilt noise suppression making them less likely to induce engine noise.
