I heard that they were going out of production, and bought a pair on special for just' in case a couple of years ago...may have just been a good good saleswoman at the local Autobahns on reflection though!

I remember in the early 70's people raving about Hella spotties. then the same people cursing and swearing when they went on holidays, to a premiere surf break and town in the southwest of WA, in their car, only to wake up and find their spotties stolen.

no I don't have a stash of Hella spotties, after seeing that ebay ad I wish I did

I've had big Cibie's and mates have had much more expensive lights but side by side these would always win out, but I guess LED and Xenon are better these days, I remember one of the guys with an L series had an LED block of lights on his roof and it was like daylight but not sure how it would go on distance.

HID spots will cream halogen lights distance wise and light intensity.

LED is a more broad kind of light and wont get distance compared to HID.

They all have their pros and cons.

Had my first real taste of the spotties last night from their bumper mount. Very good lighting although they were way out of line haha
Ill be on the lookout for a smaller diameter set to fit behind the grille to conceal them though

Okie dokie, time for a thread bump.

I now have some Narva compac 100s that i considered mounting behind the grille but after realising the extra work for something that may not work properly i decided on a different mounting position.

Theyre small, but the beam is straight as and they should be able to pull 2-300 meters no worries.
They also dont come with any plastic covers so i had to wrap them with some chip guard clear adhesive stuff.

It looks good having em behind the grill & helps prevent them getting knocked off or damaged but makes it a bugger to clean. Dirty lenses cut at least 30% or more of the lights output....

I had them on my wagon for a bit. 2-300m is over estimated. 50-100m maximum. Theyre more a fog light
