L Series - red dash lights on at idle ++ ?

Post by steptoe » Sat Jun 17, 2006 12:25 pm

This GLAT has the red dash lights glowing at idle (not nearly as bright as simple IGN on ) as if something is wrong with the alternator charge rate. They go out at 1500 or so.
Have measured battery condition charge rate motor off/ motor idle and revs and sort of indicates OK.

stop lamp+ brake fluid + auto trans temp + charge lights are the ones that have dim glow. The ECS light behaves

any clues on what to look at / for

thanks

G'day Jordan. That is my alternator doing just what do you know ?

My first check should have been disconnect it either belt or electrical...of course

almost worn out brushes I hope or is it diodes or charge rate thingamy ?

My guess would be worn bushes, apparently you can squeeze a bit more life out of them by unsoldering, extending and resoldering them but while you're there you might as well just replace them.

its ur alternator.....could be many things, worn out components, regulator not working properly, connections bad..could be one of many.......is the belt slipping?? that could be possible reason for no charge at idle, the engine sounds like its running off the battery when idling

that'll be another little job to do while engine is out as well as measure / machine discs, check booster/master
