Is it normal to hear fuel sloshing around?

After going on nearly empty for a long time and putting in a full tank, I now hear somewhat loud sloshing sounds when I come to a stop. It sounds like there is almost no baffling inside the L Series fuel tank.

Is this normal?

Dunno about normal but our L series does it, and the MY does it sometimes if I come to a sudden stop on a slight incline. When I don't hear it I worry that my tank is empty

There is no baffles inside the carby model L but you'd need to be lying down in the back of the car to hear fuel sloshing around?? Are you 100% sure it's fuel? and not some water container in the back??

I used to get that sound in my doors in the brumby. If it is the doors you may need to clear out the vents.

My L doesn't do it. No matter where or how it's driven. My fuel gauge is well below the 0 mark too..

I've never heard it from memory. It could be that you're now paranoid about it. Check the doors and the rear wheel wells for water. If it's the rear wheel wells it'll be getting in through the holes in the side of the car that holds the plastic trim on the outside. Mine does that and since I've fixed the rust hole behind the rear wheels I always find them full

I'm yet to do anything about it.

Thanks Bennie!

I think water is the reason why my taillight fuse blew. My driverside taillight now fills up with water when it rains, since I used removalists to move from Perth to Townsville.

I would get someone else to drive your car whilst you sit in the back and listen for 'sloshing', see if you can pin-point the area were this noise is coming from.

or, drive it until you run out of fuel and still see if you can hear same sloshing sound ?

I suspect it could be trapped water. I have some water in the driverside tailight as well.

I know this isnt much help but I used to know someone with a 1978 UC Torana sedan who didnt use the boot much.
One day they opened up the boot to find it totally full of water due to a leaking boot seal.
Definately, check wheel wells and inside doors.

My drive way is quite steep and I hear it when I pull up from work and turn the car off and sit in the drivers seat for a min or so and enjoy the peace before I go in the house, the fuel sloshing around soothes me haha..

I even hear it in the MY very, very occasionally and it's very very quiet. Has to be silent outside to hear it. I know it's not water behind my tail lights because I've seen inside the space back there, it's bone dry thankfully

The same can't be said however for the boot space

Which I must say is very nice to drive and has a lot of pickup. (finally I was aloud to drive it

If I back it out of the shed, cut the engine but let it roll on the clutch.
When I pull the handbrake suddenly to stop it, I can hear fuel.
Also if I'm in the back, you can hear the fuel pump.
