Looks like Greg has written the blurb with a little help from in here.

When you consider what an engineer cert will cost for an EJ conversion and your EJ bits bought dirt cheap as a going test bed imprezza or lib, installed yourself you might be a little behind if you fit a rallied EA81 twin carb and no engineer certificate at this price !

Now you've got the idea everybody. You're talking money!
Yes Steptoe I did get some help from here for my spiel and I'm thankful for that. No point reinventing the wheel.
2.5G is not a lot of money for a competition engine these days. Still can't hurt to make an offer.

Exactly, 'these days' it's not much of a competition engine. In the 1980's it was the base starting platform for the rally engine.

At a starting price of $2500 then if I offered you $1000 (which I would consider a fair price) then I would feel like I'm offending you.

I hope for your sake that you do get close to your asking price but I'd be buying a lotto ticket if you did.

Paul, TOONGA, you're forgetting that alot of people hunting around on Ebay don't know what they're looking at and alot of people have more money than sense. A combination of the two and I wouldn't be surprised if someone bought it outright. They'd only need to know a tiny bit about the subject to know it's a rare engine and $2.5k is nothing to some people.

Good luck to you Rally Leone! ;)

No one cAN REALLY PUT A VALUE ON SOMETHING like this without a good inspection/test run but with 160 psi sounds like an even bill of health for the cylinders. And as said before, depends on how much someone wants one for its rarity and bragging rights. If most of us are honest we 'overlook' how much is spent on our multi purpose hobby/ personal transport devices :) . And for some, the difference between what it may be percieved as worth and what the seller wants may just be five days work and sneeze, its gone.

Now, if only i was cashed up for a bid :)

Sorry, that was unnecessary on my behalf.

To be honest, this thread is about to be closed, it has turned into a for sale thread. I'm sure he can afford $2 to support the forum and start a real for sale thread.

You know you guys would buy it if you had the cash. :P

I would because it would be a nice piece of history and not so much of a legal headache as all the other crap I'm doing!

Every manufacturer has rare stuff like this that comes up, how you can even put a price on it is the tricky bit!

I'm sure there is some crazy people out there.. I'm one of them :)

Like I said before.. All the best with the sale

@Alex.. I don't feel this is becoming a for sale ad, just a healthy discussion on what the true valve of a EA81s is worth. I don't think the OP has said 'buy this' on here ??

Sorry.. wrong !! If I had the cash, I'd have my TT engine in my Gen2 Outback.

I agree it's rare but it doesn't come with any history. The Fiat 131 has more history, even the Gen1 RS Legacy has more history and you can buy those engines for $250. I will also say that the EA81s is brilliant engine and has some power increase over the standard EA81 but I still don't see $2500 worth of power/history/rarity.

and many of us forget (when we sit and judge) is what the item may owe the seller who wants to recoup rather than lose. Greg came in to ask opinions and advise it may be up on ebay - nothin's change - 'cept maybe his opinion of some of us. Now, if only this website was a money generator - could buy both, I mean all three 360's and this engine for display somewhere .....

Ok guys the fishing trip is over. What I think of you guys doesn't matter except SVEN '2'. I don't think this will turn out to be the scam of the century at this money. The whole car is on ebay along with all it's spares. Will not seperate. Pick up only. Will only deal with you on ebay so that this thread doesn't turn into a classified and get deleted because I can't afford $2.00 at the moment.
Cheers.
Greg.
